Build A Band

Build a Band

instrument document

The Build an Band project was a fun and different project. Because I am not very musically inclined, it was difficult for me to get the notes in key with the other instruments, or even get my instrument to play an actual not, but I had a lot of fun trying. The process of making all of the instruments was fun and exciting, because you can pretty much turn anything into an instrument.

The instrument I worked on was the wind instrument. My original idea didn't go as planned (as you will read in the document above), and I had a couple trial and errors. Although frustrating, it was interesting to see what did and didn't work. I started with trying to use a 2" x 4" piece of wood, and ended up using a PVC pipe. The fun part about this project was getting to go from idea to idea.

Content:

Frequency - the rate at which something occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time or in a given sample.

Wavelength - the distance between successive crests of a wave, especially points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave

Wave Speed - the speed at which a wave travels related to wavelength, frequency, and period

Amplitude - the maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.

Transverse Wave - a wave vibrating at right angles to the direction of its propagation

Longitudinal Wave - a wave vibrating in the direction of propagation

Electromagnetic Spectrum - the range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends

One things that I did well was that I thought outside the box to start. My original idea was something that no one else did this year, or I think anyone had done in the past. Another thing that I did well was I got things done on time, and did it well. It was nice because I worked really hard on my time management this project. Two things I learned about myself is that I like when the project isn't rushed last minute. When my group didn't get everything done, it was very frustrating and frazzled. Another thing I learned about myself is that I don't quit quickly and I learned that I will try it until I know I should move on. One thing I need to work on is advocating for myself sooner than later. I also need to work on working with my group better, not individually. Even though it was a group project, I caught myself either working by myself or working with my friends in other groups, so I need to focus on staying with my group.
