Marine Geology Vacation Destination Tri-fold Brochure

Jenna N's Deep Sea Amusement Park Tri-fold Brochure

For this assignment, we we supposed to design a brochure for a resort that people could attend, and then use marine geological features as things that the visitors can look at or do for fun. I included 9 different geological features that can be destinations during this vacation, and described what they do, and what fun thing you can do there. We did this on a tri-fold brochure layout so that it looks like something that you would see on vacation.

Here are the 9 geological features I included:

  • Volcanoes: Volcanoes are a mountain or hill, typically conical, having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are being or have been erupted from the earth's crust

  • Continental Shelf: The continental shelf is the area of sea bed around large landmass where the sea is relatively shallow

  • Black Smokers: A black smoker is a hydrothermal vent that produces hot water heated by magma rocks under the earth's crust. It is called a black smoker because is holds minerals and substances from under the crust, so that is why they are "black".

  • White Smokers: A white smoker is a hydrothermal vent that produces hot water heated by magma rocks under the earth's crust. The white smokers are not as hot as the black smokers, and don't hold minerals and substances, so that's why they are "white".

  • Mariana Trench: The Mariana Trench is the deepest place in the entire world. It is located is the South Pacific Ocean.

  • Islands: Islands are created when the top of a volcano has reached the surface of the ocean and creates a layer of land there.

  • Sea Caves: Sea caves are caves at the surface of the ocean near land, are most created by wave action in the sea.

  • Deep Sea Floor: The Deep Sea Floor represents the largest habitat on earth, being home to many different marine animals and plants.

  • Rift: A rift is a linear zone where the lithosphere is being pulled apart. This is an examples of plate tectonics, and is a result of two diverging plates.

I think that I did a great job on being creative with this project. I was able to come of with fun ideas for each geological feature, and how it could be used as entertainment in an amusement park setting. I also did a good job on finding good yet short facts to add to my brochure, so that people could look at the brochure, learn something, but stay entertained.

One thing I needed to work is time management. I did not work on this assignment when I got it, and instead waited until the last day to work on it. I also think that it could have been organized better. I noticed at the end that I has squeezed 3 different things on one page, but then had one page with only one fact, and one page of extra spaced that needed to be used. If I were to do this assignment again, I would work on the spacing of the work.
