Porifera and Cnidaria Mini-Poster

Porifera and Cnidaria

We learned about different types of marine invertebrate, which are animals without backbones. There are two phylums of marine invertebrates: Porfera and Cnidaria. For this assignment, we chose one animal from each phylum, and wrote its common name, scientific name, wrote three facts about them, and drew and labeled diagrams for each.

Sponges:

Phylum: Porfera

Common Name: Sponge

Scientific Name: Porifera

Three Facts:

  • Strongest, simplest example of an animal.

  • They have no tissue and no organs.

  • They are sessile and benthic, meaning they are not free moving and live on the seafloor.

Structure:

  • Osculum

  • Spicule

  • Incurrent pores

  • Porocytes

  • Choanocytes (include collar cell, collar, and flagella)

Jellyfish:

Phylum: Cnidaria

Common Name: Jellyfish

Scientific Name: Scyphozoa

Three Facts:

  • They have stinging cells called Nematocyst.

  • They are more complex than sponges because they have tissues.

  • They lack a brain and true nerves, but have nerve cells.

Structure:

  • Mesoglea

  • Ectoderm

  • Endoderm

  • Gastrovascular Cavity

  • Tentacle

Reflection

I think my poster looks really good. I did a great job organizing everything so that everything for both organism fit, and made sure it looked good. I also think I did a good job drawing my structures, and labeling them with key components.

I think I could do a better job on finishing this assignment sooner. I continue to do assignments the day they are due, rather than before, so that is something I can work on. I also need to find more interesting facts, and not just the basic and sometimes boring ones.
