Mentors assigned a mentee will need to complete the following mentor PD requirements to be paid a stipend (from Article 22 of the GREA Contract):
GRPS Non-certified mentors supporting new staff identified before January 1 will attend at least two (2) Mentor Academy courses yearly to be eligible for compensation. Non-certified mentors supporting new staff identified after January 1 will attend at least one (1) Mentor Academy course yearly to be eligible for compensation.
GRPS Certified mentors will attend and/or facilitate at least one (1) Mentor Academy sessions yearly to maintain certification and be eligible for compensation.
Article 22 Contract language and implications:
Certified = mentors who have completed the entire Mentor Academy Professional Development Series which consists of introductory, intermediate and advanced level courses (MA 100, 200 and 300). The term “certified” in this case is not related to Michigan Department of Education certification nor is it synonymous with the term “Trained”.
Mentors that have attended Mentor Academy courses (MA100-300) from September 2014-present may apply those MA100-300 level courses to the certification requirement. Mentor classes completed prior to September 2014 may not be applied to the certification requirement. Please refer to your transcripts to identify MA courses previously taken.
Additional Mentor PD Courses taken (after meeting your Mentor PD requirement) can be applied towards Above and Beyond PD credit. These additional MA courses will count towards the mentor certification requirement and will earn SCECH credit that can be used for certification renewal.
All mentor professional learning requirements shall be completed by the date of the final Mentor Academy session of the school year during which mentoring occurred. The final date for the 2024-2025 school year will be Thursday, May 1, 2025. Online modules need to be finished by this day as well.
