Welcome New GREA Staff Supervisors!
You play a vital role in the retention of our new staff. Research indicates that supervisor support is a primary factor that provides favorable working conditions and motivation for employees to remain in their current positions. Below are a few articles that share strategies for leaders to support new staff.

The Induction Program looks forward to working with you to support our new GREA staff. As a supervisor, your responsibilities in the induction process include:
Identifying and assigning mentors to new hires.
All teachers in their first three years of teaching experience and all teachers teaching on a permit are required by the State of Michigan to have a mentor. Mentors for new teachers should be assigned within 10 days of hire, per the GREA contract.
All new to GRPS GREA staff are strongly encouraged to be assigned a mentor. If you have an experienced teacher who is new to GRPS but you do not feel needs a mentor, please reach out to Julie Allerding to have them removed from the mentor system.
Please use mentors.grps.org to assign mentees to mentors and to approve submitted logs at the end of the year. You have access in real time to the mentor logs as well.
Mentor criteria as well as instructions for using the mentor website are included on the Mentor Information for Supervisors page.
Complete 1 hour of orientation with your new staff.
Using the resources provided on the Building/Department Orientation page, schedule a meeting with your new staff to walk them through information about your building or department and the Danielson rubric. Please feel free to make copies of the resources for your building or department and personalize them with any pertinent information. If you have multiple new hires, you are encouraged to schedule this meeting as a group session.
