About Kapit
Kapit is a town at the upper Rejang River, Sarawak, Malaysia. The most common ethnic groups in Kapit are Iban, Malays, and Chinese, with the iban constituting half of the populations. There is some longhouses close to Kapit. Previously, the only a method to arrived Kapit was to taking a three-hour boat ride from Sibu, along the Rejang River. With the passage of time, now we can choose to drive or take a bus to Kapit, which take approximately two and a half hours.
Kapit’s landmark is Fort Sylvia. It is serves as both a museum and an important landmark. Moreover, other local landmarks include the Iban ceremonial basket (Teresang) situated at the Kapit Town Square, which lends a distinct culture element to the area.
