CC and BCC

by Bill Huang

What are CC and BCC?

CC stands for Carbon Copy

The people you put in this field are essentially secondary recipients who you want to keep in the loop, but are not expecting a reply from.

These people will receive the exact same email as anybody on the primary recipients page, and can reply to the email, sending their response to everybody in the Recipients and CC field.

Everybody on the CC and primary recipients list can see everybody else on these lists.

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy

BCC is used when you want to send the same email to a lot of people, but want to keep their email addresses private to other recipients.

Only the sender of the email (you) can see who is on the BCC list. Primary recipients and CCs do cannot see the BCC list either.

If a BCC recipient replies to the email, their response will only be sent to you. The BCC recipient only receives the original email and not any subsequent replies.

BCC recipients cannot see any participants in the email thread except for the sender and themselves.

You add CC and BCC recipients in Gmail by selecting the Recipients field and clicking the Cc and Bcc links that appear on the right. You can also paste in multiple recipients at once in any of these fields.

So, to summarise...
