As a community school, PPPCS offers education, services, support, and opportunities that result in improved student learning and a healthier community. Our students and their families benefit from a number of community partnerships, such as: PPNA (Patterson Park Neighborhood Association), Parks and People Foundation, Audubon Maryland DC, Baltimore City Community College, Wide Angle Youth Media, Art with a Heart, Banner Neighborhoods, Creative Alliance, Johns Hopkins Bayview, Lions Club , Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Camp Fire USA, Playworks,Villa Maria Continium, and University of Maryland Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS).
We have a partnership with Fitness Fun & Games to provide both before and aftercare for our students on site.
We have had an ongoing relationship with Parks and People. Not only have they provided professional development for our staff (Citizen Science and individual planning for all grade levels) but we also planted the rain water gardens (3rd grade classes) and mulched trees in the park (2nd grade classes)! 3rd grade also teamed up with P&P to clean the Boat Lake and pick up trash in the park!
Representatives have come out to address our 4th grade Green Team 2016 and in 2017! They talked about the waterways in Baltimore and what we can do to address the trash problem we have with our Bay. Students problem solved many different ways for themselves to help with this. They are coming back in May to stencil the storm drains with us!
We worked with the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association to plant planters alongside the school. These planters replaced the orange construction cones our school used to set out daily to prevent motorist from driving on the sidewalk before and after school. The planters are filled with native plants so the street looks more neighborly, less construction-y. Since cars driving on the sidewalk is both a neighborhood AND school concern, we loved to collaborating with PPNA on this project and look forward to working with them more over the school year!
We have a group of Hispanic parents that meet once a week to do projects and learn new subjects. The group worked in conjunction with Audubon to create a butterfly garden for the front of our school!
