Research has shown the effectiveness of active parental involvement in improving academic and social outcomes for students with disabilities, including students with ASD (16). Therefore, teachers can employ two strategies to engage parental engagement in their child/children's learning.
· Ask the parents to read to their child, identify and practice sight words they are learning at school, and ask questions about the pictures and words.
· Encourage parents to watch videos with their child with closed captions, then discuss the sight word(s) they saw and what the video was about (12).
