Difficulties in reading comprehension for many students with ASD may result from impaired theory of mind (ToM), which is the ability to understand the idea that people have thoughts other than their own, understand situations from others' perspective and predict behaviour based upon context. This indicates that when the text is produced by them, they can comprehend it, but they find it hard to understand the text produced by others (1; 15; 19). This difficulty may compromise reading comprehension, especially when students with ASD read narrative stories because they lack an understanding of the character's emotional state and have difficulty making predictions of the character's actions (9; 11).
