Assignment Brief
Rockstar Games is currently seeking for Game designers and Engineers. Our role is to show off our creative skills, by making a playable prototype game. The game should be either a 30 second track car racing game or an FPS target range game with targets.
For this role we will take the role of a Game Systems Designer. With our main objectives being to design and implement the core gameplay mechanics, rules and systems of our chosen game prototype.
Choice one- Car racing game:
Design an exciting and challenging racetrack that takes around 30 seconds to complete.
Determine the physics controls of the car/s to create a sense of speed and control.
Try implementing a scoring system encouraging players to beat previous records.
Extension- Create powerups or obstacles which enhance gameplay experience.
Choice two- FPS Target Range:
Design a dynamic target range environment.
Develop responsive shooting mechanics.
Try implementing a scoring system encouraging players to beat previous records.
Extension- Incorporate challenging elements such as moving targets or time limited levels.
As part of production we should research, plan and produce a floor plan of our chosen game.
All evidence will be uploaded to our portfolio sites, demonstrating the skills we've learnt from tutorials.
We will be assessed on pre production, production and Reflection practices.
Pre Production should include, the floor plan, analysis of brief, mood boards, concept art, asset lists, digitalized concepts etc.
Production should include, evidence of research, and development(tutorial/workshop evidence), screen recordings, screen shots, node maps, final renders etc.
Reflection practices(screen recordings, evaluations) etc.
