AK MCJROTC Annual Orientation Week (North Carolina)
Cadet Leadership Course (South Carolina)
Cadets can only attend starting the summer AFTER their LEI year (rising LEII) and then all the way until the summer starting their senior year.
Summer 2023: June 26th - 28th
[2023] The camp was held at an Army National Guard base (Clarks Hill Training Center) in Plum Branch, South Carolina. Ardrey Kell attended the camp with 4 other Marine Corps JROTC schools from around the area. The AK cadet staff were selected to run and direct the camp of roughly 80 cadets. During the 3 days, cadets participated in a rope course, a static tour of military vehicles, a MONT exercise with nerf guns, physical training, team building exercises, and land navigation courses.
The camps below only allow 2-4 cadets (per school) to attend each summer as cadets from many different states (national event) attend. Cadets travel together by air and are NOT supervised by a chaperone/ parent throughout their travel journey. Cadets must be selected by the SMI to attend these events. Cadets can only attend starting the summer AFTER their LEI year (rising LEII) and then all the way until the summer starting their senior year.
Nationals Drill Camp (Texas)
*Cadets used drill rifles (they're not real, they do not fire!)
Summer 2023: July 8th - 14th
Cadets in attendance (as of July 2023): c/ Lieutenant Colonel Lily Long, c/ Second Lieutenant Nicole Neuse, and c/ Sergeant Major Stone Gardner
Summer 2024: June 23rd - 29th
Cadets in attendance (as of June 2024): c/ Second Lieutenant Alec White, and c/ Sergeant Major Jay Viroja
The camp was held at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. This is a very intensive drill week, and is tailored towards cadets who are passionate about the art of military drill. The camp consists of classroom instruction (how to enforce safe expo practices, assembling a team, preparing for drill meets, inspection, leadership, unit commanding, and more), as well as practical application (colorguard, regulation drill, all levels of exhibition drill, stations, guide on, etc). In the evenings, cadets participate in team bonding events with their platoon and company (for example a movie night, Bar-B-Q, platoon competitions, awards dinner, and more). This is a great experience for cadets who want to become leaders on the AK drill team, and meet other cadets from all over the country.
STEM Camp (Virginia)
Summer 2024: July 10th - 16th
Cadets in attendance (as of July 2024): c/ Staff Sergeant Zanjad Keshav, and c/ Lance Corporal Daniel Hathaway
The camp was held at the Randolph Macon Academy in Fort Royal, Virginia. "This camp included 2 classes over many STEM topics including CAD (Computer Aided Design) in the form of a 2 day course on building different engineering products such as cars, catapults and windmills. The course also included a class in soldering and programming in the form of the cadets building and programming their own drones. After making these drones they learned to fly which included different drone modes tricks. With this newly gained information the cadets were given a fake mission to complete a course which included safely landing to recharge the drone, hovering over an area for surveillance and safely landing back at the starting position. Overall the camp was very helpful in advancing the STEM knowledge of the cadets involved."
