Attending community service events earn you community service hours which will be logged yourself in the x2VOL system that Ardrey Kell uses to count hours. They're many great opportunities throughout the year to give back to your community. If you get 100 hours in your time in high school, then you can get the Knights In Action cord at graduation.
Requirements: To attend community service events, you have to have atleast a "C" average in ALL of your classes and be in good standing with the program & school.
Nourish Up/ Loaves and Fishes
Cadets organize and pack nonperishable foods which are distributed to communities in need.
Beds for Kids
Cadets assist with building furniture like beds & desks, as well as steaming mattresses. The organization furnishes homes for underprivileged families.
Toys for Tots
Cadets collect toys throughout the week from Ardrey Kell donations, and assist with organizing/ packaging toys at the Toys for Tots wharehouse. Toys for Tots is a program run by the Marine Corps Reserve, and allows children to have toys for Christmas.
March of Dimes
Cadets assist the March of Dimes staff in running their annual walk for the Charlotte area. They help with setting up, cleaning up, running the stands, setting out the route, and more. The March of Dimes organization focuses on the heath of mothers and babies by raising awareness for preventable complications. This is a favorite community service event among many.
Elementary Events (Field Day/ Hawkfest)
Cadets assist the school staff and help promote safety. They also run the stations and help out with assembling/ cleaning up.
Middle School Recruiting Events
Cadets go to local middle schools and share information about the AK MCJROTC program to 8th graders. [2 hours of community service]
Football Games
Cadets get the opportunity to earn 4 community service hours during Varsity Football games. They assist with parking before the game & clean up the stadium stands after the game. For homecoming, the drill team provides a sword arch for homecoming court.
Colorguards
Selected members of the Drill Team get the honor of presenting the colors at events. Some examples are school games (football, lacrosse, basketball, etc), award ceremonies, graduations, special opportunities like ACC, and more.
Booster Club Fundraising
Cadets and parents who are 16 years or older may participate in volunteering for sporting events. This raises money for our program and enables us to do all of the activities throughout the year. Cadets also earn many community service hours in these events. We have been to the Bank of America Stadium for NFL football games and just recently went to the Wells Fargo Golf Championship.
