Cadets on the orienteering team compete against each other and other schools in teams of 2-4 to "check into" points located around the park in the least amount of time possible.
Each team has a team leader, who is an experienced upperclassman. Cadets learn how to use a map and a compass to navigate the park, in order to find their points. Each point is 'checked in" by a fingerstick-which logs the specific time for each check point. The team leader will carry their phone but is only used for emergencies. Cadets compete at different course difficulties.
