Book Study Team
Cadets LEII and above can be selected to be on the AK Book Study Team. For those who are taking Honors ROTC III & IV, this credit acts as their honors project. The activities differ by year as CMS chooses the material and book. Generally, cadets read the book and analyze a chapter by relating it to their own personal lives. The team also creates a legacy project & presentation which is graded by a CMS panel of judges.
The book selected for the 2024 - 2025 School Year is "Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action" by Simon Sinek.
JLAB
"JLAB is an academic competition for JROTC cadets of all branches. Up to 2 teams of four cadets participate in up to 3 levels of the competition. The first two levels are tests similar to the SAT, ranging from reading comprehension, grammar, science, math, and general knowledge. The first level takes place early in the school year, and the second level takes place near the start of 2nd semester. The third level is almost entirely trivia based and takes place in Washington, DC. AK teams that reach level three will compete with MCJROTC teams across the United States, and have the opportunity to face the other branches at the joint service championship. All cadets will take a practice test at the beginning of the year which can be used to gauge interest."

Knowledge Bowl
Cadets are given a study guide from a particular school, and then compete through individual tests. The competition pictured was at Nation Ford High School in February of 2023. We also host our own knowledge bowl here at AK usually in December/ January.
