"The Ardrey Kell JROTC Rifle team is one of few in CMS, and a very competitive school in competitions. The rifle team is everything about confidence, persicon, and patience to create a perfect shot. Many students learn and grow on these traits throughout the year which helps build their character.Â
The air rifle is a light weight, precise and every component comes down to the shooter which makes the rifle hard to master. Some can shoot competitive levels in months and some take a year but it comes down to your ability to grow with discipline and consistency. To simplify the sport, it consists of 20 shots in each of the 3 positions which are: Standing, Kneeling, and Prone. Each target is the width of a golf ball shot at a distance of 10 meters and you can score between a 1-10 meaning the maximum you can score is a 600 from standing kneeling prone. Ardrey Kell shooters shoot at an average of 420-500 and Olympic rifles shoot at 550-590. Students who participate and show potential have the chance to earn college scholarships."
