Bees and Basketball

Every time my cousin and I meet up, we always compete, this time was no different. Usually, we play basketball, a sport that I’m not very good at, but this time we played hockey, a perfect chance for me to dominate since it is not his sport. In the basement of my house, I have a setup to practice and play hockey. It was perfect. We started to play. I was moving the puck around him. He couldn’t get it. He looked lost and could not get the puck from me. We must have played for twenty minutes and he hadn’t got the puck once. All he was doing was playing defense. There was no hope for him.

He probably got tired of losing, saying he was bored.  He dropped his stick mid-game and said “I quit! Let's go play basketball, I stink at this sport.” Basketball was not my sport, hockey was!

Obviously, when he said this I was annoyed as I didn’t want to get embarrassed. As a result, I said, “Let's just keep playing hockey.”

I think he was bored of playing hockey so he said, “No, I will just go play with your brother.”

“Fine we can play basketball,” I said, very pissed off and annoyed “but we have not played on that hoop in a while.”

He said, “Fine with me,” and we went outside. He was dribbling around, showing off some of his moves. I looked up at the hoop and noticed a lot of bees flying around, going in and out of the neck of the hoop, where it attaches to the backboard. After I saw these bees I secretly hoped there was a nest full of bees to sting him.  At this point, I was so mad at him that I didn’t care if he got stung. Maybe I was a little too bitter about having to switch games but at that moment I just didn’t care. He kept dribbling then he put up a shot as I watched it go up. At this point, I realized I made the worst choice ever because I’m going to get stung too. It was too late. The ball hit the rim and the bees were aggravated. They kept flying out. It seemed like hundreds and they were coming after us. We both took off but not quickly enough. I was getting stung one after another; it felt like I was being pinched, hard, over and over. I was still mad at him but now I was also mad at myself. During that moment we ran into the house while my back hurt so bad from all the bee stings. I ran to take a shower thinking that it would ease the pain. It was even worse.  I realized I had gotten more stings than my cousin so I didn’t even get revenge on him. I was just going to be in pain for a while and he was barely in pain. Nothing worked my way in this situation.

After, I felt bad for not telling him about the bees.  Later I asked if he was okay. He said yeah. I asked him if there was anything else he would rather do because I felt bad. He said yeah let's go have a fun time and play Xbox. I asked what game are we playing, and he said let's play Madden, thank goodness it was football not basketball. We played for a while and had a great time. The next time he came over I agreed to play basketball first, and if I saw bees, I would surely warn him to not shoot the ball.
