The College HR Team is passionate about providing staff with guidance and support during their employment journey at the College. Our role as a department is to promote opportunities and guidance that enable employees to engage in effective management of their own physical, mental, spiritual, financial and social well-being.
At Saints we encourage our employees to interact through staff development events, socials and campus wide school functions which are held from time to time.
The College employs a number of psychologists across the schools who are able to assist staff. If you would prefer to seek help from an external provider, this can be arranged via our staff Employee Assistance Program via the Campus HR Department.
We endeavour to ensure that your work and immediate surrounding areas are safe, which in turn helps you to feel safe, happy and healthy. Should you feel this not to be the case please report any issues to your school or department Health and Safety Representative or to the College Safety Officer so that your matter can be resolved as soon as possible.
The College strives to be a place where students, parents, staff and alumni experience the love of God and faith in action. The Chapel is the spiritual heartland of the College, and is to be treated with respect and appreciation by all who enter its doors. Other places of spiritual gathering on the campus include the outdoor chapel and the labyrinth.
Recognition of other faiths in appreciation of our social and cultural diversity as a South African educational institution, we welcome and respect staff and students who are believers of other faiths.
Because what we do for a living encompasses so much of our time, it’s important for our overall well-being to do what we love and love what we do. When people are doing what they were meant to do, they deepen their sense of meaning and purpose. While at Saints you’ll contribute your unique gifts, skills and talents to work that are both personally meaningful and rewarding. We wish that all staff find real meaning and passion in the work they do at the College as we all make our contribution to this amazing College.
People growth and talent development is one of our 6 key strategic themes and therefore the development of our people is key. The College invests generously in staff training and development. You are encouraged to take advantage of all the growth opportunities presented to you during your time at the College.

As an HR team, we try to arrange a few events annually to bring the broader campus together. A few examples in the past have been our fun Quiz & Kareoke evenings, Womens Day Breakfast events, Campus staff Marimba jam session etc. We would love to hear from staff as to what events they would enjoy
We would encourage all staff to visit the new Well-being resource space which has been created and curated by several of the College psychologists.
The website is intended as a collection of relevant links, information, and activities to promote the development of wellbeing for our staff and parents.

Health and Safety is a very important responsibility for all of us at the College. At the start of 2020 the College employed our first Safety Officer, Jon Harrison-Bowen. Jon has been employed through LabourNet as our on-site Health & Safety Officer. Jon comes with a wealth of information and knowledge on all matters health and safety. Jon reports directly into the Head of Operations as the Chair of the Health & Safety Committee but will be getting involved in all the schools and departments around ensuring their health & safety documentation, systems, practices, etc. are compliant. Jon can be contacted via SafetyOfficer@stithian.com.
"Health and Safety is the responsibility of both the employer AND the employee. Yes, the law does prescribe this, but mere legal compliance shouldn't be the motive behind having measures in place and being mindful of how our actions in our day to day work tasks can affect us and others around us. As good people, we know that an ethical sense of responsibility towards others is necessary to create positive relationships with them. We expect others to treat us with care and respect as much as others expect the same of us. There is a famous quote from the Bible that says, do unto others as you would have done to you, that fits very nicely in here.
Legally speaking, the employer is required to provide and maintain, as far as is reasonably practicable a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of their staff. This involves identifying risks and mitigating them to a point of elimination or reasonable control. The staff are required to take reasonable care for their own health and safety as well as other people who may be affected by their acts and omissions. This involves co-operating with and reporting incidents and unsafe situations to their employer as soon as possible. There is also a duty towards visitors and others that are directly affected by activities in the workplace, i.e. our students and parents. It is clear to see that this campus involves a lot of responsibility to be taken by a lot of people - over 500 people if we include all contractor staff that calls this beautiful campus their place of work!
Morally speaking, employers need to take reasonable care of their staff and consider the effects of their work activities on others. In return for the duties staff provide to their employer, we expect a safe work environment and to be able to return to our families in the same condition of health we were in when we arrived at work. As staff, we have an important responsibility to return home to our families uninjured - thus, we have a moral obligation to look after our own health and safety and be aware of how our tasks could affect others around us. Remember, the consequences of not being safe are not limited to us as singular people only, they can greatly affect our families, other people and their families as well!"

It’s important for our overall well-being to do what we love and love what we do. When people are doing what they were meant to do, they deepen their sense of meaning and purpose. While at Saints we want you to explore all opportunities to contribute in ways that bring you meaning and purpose. It is amazing to learn more about people and the wealth of skills and knowledge they have outside of the role that they fulfill on a daily basis. We want staff to truely be themselves and make their contributions. Via your personal growth plan discussion with your line manager, you can explore ways to contribute and grow yourself.
The College invests generously in staff training and development. You are encouraged to take advantage of all the growth opportunities presented to you during your time at the College. This may include furthering your studies, attending a range of conferences, workshops and seminars locally and internally, being part of action research groups, applying for a visitorship opportunity via ISASA, attend the Saints Leadership Development Programme, or learning new skills on the job.
