Wildlife Underpass Sizing Research
This is a set of research and a statistical-based methodology to determine the right size for wildlife underpasses, solving a long-standing issue that there previously had been no standard methodology for doing this. Using this saved $1.7 million for the sizing of the underpass on the Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes project.
RANKING: People's Choice and Judges Panel Winner!!
Wedge Lock Sign Socket Base Rounder
This innovation solves the problem that sign sockets are usually distorted after impact hits, not allowing reuse without replacement. This tool allows the socket to be returned to round; that allows reuse of the socket, which saves time and money.
RANKING: Honorable Mention
GIS Potholes Field Map & Geohub Layer Improvement
This innovation allows pothole data to be captured easily and efficiently in the field. The pothole layer tool provides a real-time look at highway conditions, which allows more efficient ways to plan repairs and/or bundle repairs with other CDOT projects and efforts.
RANKING: 3rd Place, People's Choice (tied)
"Post Construction Temporary Control Measure Removal" Improvement
This innovation introduces a methodology that uses GeoHub, Offline Mapping, and ESRI's Field Maps Application to create a solution that is makes it easier for Maintenance and environment personnel to accurately record and find all the PCTCMs onsite. This facilitates their removal after construction is completed, which helps to ensure that PCTCMs are removed more quickly, and more efficiently, than was possible in the past.
