Description:
(Please describe Impact of Water Management programs in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. You can describe more related items if needed.)
Kolej Komuniti Selandar is committed to implementing sustainable water management initiatives that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and Goal 13: Climate Action.
A series of water-saving innovations and awareness campaigns have been introduced across the campus to optimize water use, reduce wastage, and promote environmental stewardship among students and staff.
OBJECTIVES
To support the Sustainable Development Goals through efficient and innovative water management systems.
To promote the use of renewable energy and green technologies in daily campus operations.
To raise awareness of water conservation among the campus community.
To minimize surface runoff and pollution through improved landscape design and infiltration systems.
SYSTEMS AND INITIATIVES IMPLEMENTED
a. Rainwater Harvesting System
Collects and stores rainwater from rooftops for irrigation, cleaning, and fertigation use.
Reduces reliance on treated water supply.
b. Water Collecting Innovation using PVC Pipe
Simple, low-cost system channeling rainwater efficiently into storage tanks.
Demonstrates practical green innovation for small-scale implementation.
c. Water Gutter Innovation using Bamboo
Utilizes natural bamboo material as an eco-friendly rainwater gutter.
Reduces plastic use and promotes sustainable local resources.
d. Smart Fertigation System with Timer
Automated fertigation using timer control ensures optimal water distribution for plants.
Prevents overwatering and improves crop productivity.
e. Solar Water Pump and Timer for Mushroom Area
Uses renewable solar energy to power water pumping and irrigation systems.
Reduces electricity consumption and supports carbon reduction efforts.
f. Water Conservation Awareness Campaign
Conducted workshops, signage, and student engagement activities.
Promotes behavioural change toward responsible water use on campus.
g. Installation of Infiltration Zone and Water Drop Area
Designed to reduce surface runoff and allow natural absorption of rainwater.
Prevents erosion and improves groundwater recharge.
IMPACT AND OUTCOMES
Water Savings: Reduced treated water consumption by up to 45%.
Energy Efficiency: Increased use of renewable solar power for irrigation systems.
Community Engagement: More than 300 students and staff participated in awareness activities.
Environmental Benefits: Lower surface runoff, reduced soil erosion, and improved on-site water retention.
SDG Alignment: Direct contribution to SDG 6 (Clean Water), SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
