Selandar Community College (KKSL) actively promotes the conservation of plant, animal, and genetic resources through both on-campus and off-campus initiatives that support long-term sustainability goals.
On campus, the Landscape Nursery Unit functions as a living laboratory for the conservation and propagation of ornamental and native plant species such as Ixora sp., Hibiscus sp., Duranta sp., and Bougainvillea sp.. These plants are used in landscape design, teaching, and student projects, ensuring the preservation and continuous availability of local species. The Fruit Orchard and Herbal Garden also serve as conservation areas for local edible plants and herbs including banana, papaya, lemongrass, turmeric, pandan, and lime, which support food and agriculture-related learning activities.
KKSL also operates a Vermicomposting and Red Tiger Earthworm Farm, which maintains a live population of beneficial soil fauna used to recycle organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. This initiative not only supports soil biodiversity but also enhances sustainable waste management and agricultural practices within the college.
In addition, KKSL collaborates with external partners through the Tree Planting Program under the Kampung Angkat MADANI Project in Perak, where lecturers and students from the Landscape Certificate Program participated in planting native tree species. This initiative supports both community empowerment and biodiversity restoration, reflecting the college’s commitment to environmental stewardship beyond the campus grounds.
