This study focuses on the religious affiliation of international migrants, examining patterns of migration among seven major groups: Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, adherents of other religions and the religiously unaffiliated. About 3% of the world’s population has migrated across international borders. While that may seem like a small percentage, it represents a lot of people. If the world’s 214 million international migrants were counted as one nation, they would constitute the fifth most populous country on the globe, just behind Indonesia and ahead of Brazil. Faith on the Move, a new study by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life, focuses on the religious affiliation of international migrants, examining patterns of migration among seven major groups: Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, adherents of other religions and the religiously unaffiliated.

Sadhana is partnering with the Interfaith Census 2020 Count Coalition to ensure that New York City’s Hindu communities are accurately counted in the 2020 United States Census. Why is the Census important?: For the next 10 years, decision-makers will use 2020 Census data to fund programs and services benefiting our communities, such as free school lunches, emergency and disaster response, Medicaid, health clinics, libraries, community centers, parks, roads, and more. The data every household gives in the 2020 Census will determine where those dollars go for the next 10 years, and as a community, we want it to be fair and accurate and complete.
Is a diverse collective of faith leaders and faith-based organizations across NYC who seek to decrease fear, shatter apathy, and inspire hope to ensure a better future for everyday New Yorkers through a complete count in the 2020 Census.
