Background
Mrs. LeMay was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She continued to move all around the country with her family until they settled in the Bay Area the summer before her 6th grade year. Mrs. LeMay went to middle school and high school in San Ramon, graduating from Dougherty Valley High School. Go Wildcats! She was interested in art at a young age, knowing that it was something both therapeutic and inspiring in her educational experience. Being a dyslexic learner, Mrs. LeMay took to visual learning very quickly and could understand the benefits of the visual learning style. From Dougherty, Mrs. LeMay went on to study Textile Design in college and work in the design industry for a few years at companies like Pottery Barn. Mrs. LeMay decided that she would rather use her artistic skills to bring joy, passion, and beauty into this world through high school education. She made a fast change and enrolled at St. Mary’s College of California to earn her teaching credential and master’s degree. Mrs. LeMay began teaching at Dougherty Valley High School in 2020.
Teaching Philosophy
Creativity gives us the power to process our emotions through art, to think critically, and to see the world through a wider perspective. Whether the student steps into the classroom with the hopes of becoming a fine artist or if the student wants an interesting elective for their school year, Ms. LeMay is committed to showing all students how the arts can improve their lives and their ways of learning.
One of Ms. LeMay’s favorite artists is the great Yayoi Kusama. Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who utilizes vibrant colors, bold shapes, and captivating movement in her art installations and paintings. Her artwork often addresses issues such as gender equality, mental health, and counterculture. Ms. LeMay thinks that you should check out this wonderful artist because her work is exciting, and it tackles some hard topics that we all must take a long hard look at.
“Art is an adventure into an unknown world, which can only be explored by those willing to take the risks.”
-Mark Rothko, Artist
