The Falcons Functional Life Skills (FLS) Program is designed to meet the needs of students with moderate intellectual disabilities by helping them develop the skills, confidence, and independence needed for adult life.
Our program focuses on six key areas of growth:
· Social Skills: Building positive relationships, cooperation, and self-esteem.
· Communication: Developing effective ways to express needs, wants, and ideas.
· Personal Management: Strengthening independence in daily living, self-care, and community participation.
· Vocational Skills: Gaining real-world experience through classroom tasks, school jobs, and supported community work placements.
· Leisure Skills: Exploring and participating in enjoyable, healthy recreation choices.
· Functional Academics: Applying practical reading, writing, math, and money skills to real-life situations.
Each student has an Individual Program Plan (IPP) created collaboratively by teachers, educational assistants, parents or guardians, and the student.
Transportation may be provided by the school division, and transition planning begins in the final years of schooling to prepare students for community life, further training, or supported work placements.
Through these experiences, students develop the practical skills and confidence needed to move successfully from school life to life in the community
