The secondary autism resource program is for students who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and need additional support. Students are referred to the program and acceptance into the program is determined by the autism consultant.
The main goal of the program is to provide support in academics, regulation, communication, social skills, executive functioning, etc. Students are enrolled in regular high school classes along with at least one resource period per semester. In terms of academics, students receive support with assignments, exam accommodations, case by case EA support, structured study strategies, and are provided with a quiet place to work when needed. They are also offered to take our locally developed social thinking class, Bridges 20, which enables students to develop skills in self-regulation, social interaction, communication, and life skills in order to participate, and contribute to the communities in which they live.
The autism resource teachers work closely with classroom teachers to implement strategies which support student learning.
