How can I get the COVID-19 vaccine?
Good afternoon Scurry County. There are 16 new individuals who have tested positive and 12 new recoveries. This report also includes two additional deaths which brings the total to 16. Both are females, one between the ages of 60-70 and the other is between the ages of 65-75. There are 110 active cases, 771 who have recovered, and a total of 897 cases year to date.
Traditional Halloween activities are fun, but can increase the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19. Here are some Halloween tips from the CDC.
Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
Set up a station outside with individually bagged treats for kids to take.
Wash hands before handling treats.
Wear a mask.
Make your cloth mask part of your costume.
A costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask.
Do NOT wear a costume mask over a cloth mask. It can make breathing more difficult.
Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing
This applies to indoors AND outdoors.
Bring hand sanitizer with you and use it after touching objects or other people.
Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Parents: supervise young children using hand sanitizer.
Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when you get home and before you eat any treats.
If you are sick, have been told to quarantine, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19, stay home and do not interact with others.

What makes activities safer?
Activities are safer if you can maintain at least 6 feet of space between you and others. COVID-19 spreads easier between people who are within 6 feet of each other.
They are held in outdoor spaces. Indoor spaces with less ventilation where it might be harder to keep people apart are more risky.
People are wearing masks. Interacting without wearing masks also increases your risk.

Death was an 84 year old female with preexisting medical conditions.
The Health Department is currently investigating an outbreak at the Goodlife Assisted Living Facility. The first positive case was an employee that was notified on Friday, September 11. The second case was also an employee that was tested and notified late Saturday night. On Monday, September 14, the health department was notified of four residents that were also positive. The positive residents and employees were all contained in one building. Due to the availability of rapid testing, and the swift action of Bill Dickinson and the staff of Cogdell Lab, the rest of the residents and staff of that building were tested, with results received late yesterday evening. Due to the number of positive cases at that point, our local health authority, Dr. Bid Cooper, along with the administration of Goodlife, made the decision to test all residents and staff. There were a total of 80 tests performed in less than a 24 hour period. There were a total of 56 negative tests, and 24 positive. All results have been received.
As of right now, there are 14 residents and 10 employees that are positive for COVID19. All precautions are being followed, with further testing and quarantine procedures implemented. The Health Department is continuing the investigation and will keep the public updated as information unfolds.
Good afternoon Scurry County. There are two additional individuals who have tested positive and four new recoveries. Stay safe and stay well this weekend.
