Testing continues! We will be testing from 8:30-9:30 daily. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time each day so they can start testing with their class in a calm and focused way. Being on time helps set them up for success. Thank you for your support!
As the school year comes to an end, it’s still very important that students continue nightly reading and regular practice of their math facts. These daily habits help students maintain the skills they’ve worked hard to build all year. Reading supports vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence, while math fact practice builds fluency and accuracy that will carry into next year. Without continued practice, students can easily lose some of this important progress over the summer.
Parents can help keep students motivated by making these routines part of the daily schedule and keeping them fun. Let children choose books that interest them, and set a consistent reading time each night. For math facts, try games, flashcards, or quick timed challenges to make practice engaging. Small incentives and celebrating effort can also go a long way in helping students stay consistent and finish the year strong.
State Testing
Lessons 32 and 33
Lesson 32: Perimeter
Lesson 33: Partitioning Shapes
🕜 Please continue practicing telling time at home! It's such an important skill. Also, talk about shapes! You can discuss:
“What shapes do you see around us right now?”
“Can you find something that looks like a circle (or square, triangle, etc.)? What is it?”
“How are these shapes the same or different from each other?”
Genre Spiral Review
Would you like to practice at home? Here are a few writing prompts your student could tackle:Â
Opinion:
What is the best way to spend a free day? Write about your opinion and give at least two reasons why it’s the best.
Narrative:
Write a story about a time you had an unexpected adventure. It could be real or imagined—be sure to include a beginning, middle, and end with lots of details!
Informational:
Explain how to do something you are really good at (like playing a game, making a snack, or caring for a pet). Be sure to include clear steps and helpful details so someone else could follow along.
Prefix: dis-, un-, bi-
Grammar review: abstract nouns
We will be practicing for the California State Tests (CAT) with in class guided website practice. The ELA CAT looks a lot like the Benchmark Reading comprehension tests that the students are used to taking on the computer that includes reading passages with multiple choice questions as well as open ended type-in type answers. They will also need to write a paragraph (1 or more) on a provided topic, based on what they read about. We will be practicing in April to prepare them for testing time in May.
