Welcome back to school for another fun year of learning and personal growth. I am excited to start the 3rd grade journey with you. I have been teaching since 2002 and have taught at several schools in my years in SMUSD: Knob Hill, Twin Oaks, Discovery and Double Peak. I've taught Special Education K-5, 1st Grade and 3rd Grade.
I will provide a safe and inspiring learning environment for your children to explore new concepts and ideas. We all deserve to feel comfortable and respected as we learn and grow together.
Classroom Basics
Parents please fill out before school starts: 2026 New Class Parent Form
School Supplies: Chromebooks will remain in the classroom cart during the school year. Each student will be assigned a numbered computer to use for assignments. You can access their accounts from personal devices at home as needed. Students need their own personal headphones that plug in to the school computer to stay in the classroom. A personal mouse is optional if your child prefers using one. Make sure your personal tech accessories are name labeled.
Pencils, pens, highlighters, markers, crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks are all used up often. Having extras is very helpful and class donations are always appreciated. Class sets of 30 will be plenty for everyone. (Crayola, Ticonderoga, Sharpie, Mr. Sketch, Elmers are the best quality brands.) Each student will have a personal zippered pencil pouch, a folder for papers, composition notebooks and other books in their desk chair bag.
Please check my Amazon wishlist and Target Wishlist for assorted classroom supplies, but feel free to get supplies at whatever store you choose.
Other donations that are frequently used are:
unscented baby wipes, tissues, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer
Backpacks: Please help your child keep their backpack clean and organized. Envelopes of student papers will come home weekly. Please review and send the envleope back the following day to refill.
A regular, hanging backpack will work best. Rolling suitcases are difficult in hallways and stairs. Clean out backpacks often. Do not bring in toys or anything extra. Kids can bring their own playground ball if they want, make sure you have their name on it.
Personal Technology: cell phones, phone/game watches, and other personal technology is not allowed in the classroom. If your child brings personal technology to school, it will need to stay in their backpack and put away during the school day. They can use it after school as needed.
Lunch, Snack, Water bottle - NAME LABEL everything. Cafeteria breakfast and lunches are provided at no cost.
Dismissal Make sure you update your ischoolride app to 3rd grade. We will call kids out when we see your car is in the parking lot. School busses are available as well.
Teacher Communication
Parent Square is the school district communication app. I can send whole class posts and personal 1-1 or group messages in the app. Make sure your notifications are set up and you check often. This site will be updated weekly with what we are learning in class.
My email is jodie.blalock@smusd.org
