Hello! My name is Audra Houtchens, and I am proud to be a 3rd grade teacher here at Double Peak School. This will be my 13th year teaching in the San Marcos Unified School District, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been one of the original teachers who helped open our amazing school. I’m deeply passionate about teaching and hope that’s evident in everything I do. Creating a safe, fun, and engaging classroom environment is something I truly value.
A little bit about me:
I was born and raised in Southern California and absolutely love where I live. I earned my college degree and teaching credential at Cal State San Marcos and had the opportunity to complete my student teaching right here in the San Marcos district.
Outside of the classroom, I love being outdoors—camping and hiking are some of my favorite pastimes! While the classroom is my happy place, traveling is a close second. I’ve had the chance to visit countries such as Italy, Australia, New Zealand, France, and Mexico, and I look forward to exploring many more places with my sweet son, Emmitt—who will be starting TK here at Double Peak this year!
Spending quality time with family and friends is also very important to me, and something I prioritize in my life. If your child hasn’t already told you, I also happen to be a big fan of coffee, Target, and building strong, meaningful connections with each and every one of my students.
Now that you know a little about me, I’m excited to get to know more about you and your family. I can’t wait to begin this new adventure together!
