We will be practicing for the California State Tests (CAT) with in class guided website practice. The ELA CAT looks a lot like the Benchmark Reading comprehension tests that the students are used to taking on the computer that includes reading passages with multiple choice questions as well as open ended type-in type answers. They will also need to write a paragraph (1 or more) on a provided topic, based on what they read about. We will be practicing in April to prepare them for testing time in May.

“Johnny Jazz the Recorder Raider”Â
The third grade will be presenting a play called “Johnny Jazz the Recorder Raider” on Saturday April 25th at 11:45 am. Students are asked to arrive at 11:15 am and will be finished by 12:30 pm. The play is a part of the second annual DPS Visual and Performing Arts Day. There will be many other things to see, buy and do during VAPA day. The fun includes art displays and projects, sixth grade student run businesses, music performances by students in kindergarten through 5th grade, food trucks, live music, a DJ and more. Don't miss out on fun for the whole family.
There are several roles in the play available to 3rd grade students. Speaking roles will include one or two lines spoken by one child into a microphone. There is a singing roles available too, Mrs. Melody sings and speaks by herself. There are five roles for Codabots that involve dramatic movement but no speaking.  If your child would like to audition for one of these roles during music class in the month of March, fill out the attached google form by March 25th. The form indicates that your child would like a special part and will be present for the VAPA Day performance. During the audition, your child will be asked to read a line from the play with expression, a calm body and a loud voice. If your child would like a singing part, they will be asked to sing the beginning of the song “The Music’s Gone”. Codabot actors will be asked to demonstrate their most creative scene of destruction. Â
All students are encouraged to participate in the show. All students will have a simple costume to wear and will help to tell the story by singing and playing recorder in a large group. This performance is not mandatory and absence will not affect student music grades. But it's going to be fun. Don't miss out!Â
