We have all enjoyed celebrating World Rhyme Week this week.
The five rhymes we have focussed on are:
Jack and Gill
Hickory Dickory Dock
Head, shoulders, knees and toes
Row, row, row your boat
Wheels on the Bus.
We looked closely at clocks to promote our knowledge of Understanding of the World. We discussed the different ways that we can measure time with a clock, stopwatch, alarm, watch and a sand timer.
We learnt how the hands of a clock go round in a clockwise circle as time moves forward. We use the numbers around the outside to measure time.
We particularly enjoyed Head, shoulders, knees and toes as we sang the rhyme and carried out the actions.
We challenged ourselves by labelling the parts of our body that we sing in the rhyme.
In pairs we sang "Row, row, row your boat" and help our friends hands as we leaned back and to.
We developed our rhyming skils to test what was coming next.
"Shore rhymes with roar".
We had a group discussion about who had experienced a bus journey and who uses a bus to get to school.
We had some excellent answers when asking who has been on a bus.
"I went on a little bus at the airport"
We also played a maths game, rolling the dice and matching the amount of passengers on our bus to the number rolled.
As our RE unit is Christmas we have shared the Christmas story a little early to ensure the children have enough time and opportunities to understand why we celebrate Christmas. We have started to learn some songs that the children will be looking forward to singing for you during our carol service with a twist!
We used a chatterbox or a mystery box as one of the children cleverly named it 👏 to take turns to select objects relating to the birth of Jesus. The children discuss their object and talked about it. They really enjoyed doing this.
The winning activity this week has most certainly been sewing. The children have been so excited about it and they were so pleased and proud of their creations. The sewing’s will be part of your Christmas present from them.
