Make a Visual Schedule

In the PEEP classroom, we often use visual schedules to help children understand our routines and what they can expect to happen, and when. Visual schedules provide a great reference for young children, and can also support receptive language development by pairing the auditory input (you telling your child what will happen next) with visual input (a picture of what will happen next). Try making your own visual schedule for routines at home using this excellent resource.

Taking a picture of your child doing an activity can be a very effective visual support. For instance, if you want to create a visual support for breakfast, you can take a picture of your child waiting at the table, ready for the meal. When you show this image to her, she will see herself, doing exactly what you want her to do.

If you find yourself with questions or needs as you make your own visual schedule, please contact us so we can provide any support you may need.
