July's Theme: Animals
Summer reading is in full swing! We have a mid-challenge event and we're lucky to have local performer, Unique Derique. This month's theme is all about animals and as a reminder, our Paws to Read program is the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month @ 10:00am-11:00am - come read to the sweetest dog around!
Date & Time: Saturday, July 22 @11:00am-2:00pm
Description: You're halfway there! To celebrate everything you've achieved so far, the library is throwing another summer bash on July 22. Come join us outside in the sun, for food, music, and a performance by Bay Area clown, Unique Derique! This is a great opportunity to bring your reading logs and collect your prizes. Are you feeling behind schedule to meet your goal? Chat with a librarian and they can suggest the perfect book to get you motivated again. Happy reading!
Staffing: 1 youth services librarian and 3 library staff members to help patrons with summer reading questions, hand out prizes, and liaise with Unique Derique.
Budget: $150 for snacks and $300 for the performance fee.
Date & Time: Wednesday, July 5 @ 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Description: In celebration of our animal month, we will be making field journals. These can be used to bring on nature walks or bird watching trips to draw what you see along the way. The library will provide pre-cut and pre-hole punched paper which you can then sew together to create your own journal. We will have other art supplies available for you to decorate your covers however you would like. Both twine and thicker yarn will be available to accommodate all hands big and small.

Date & Time: Saturday, July 15 @ 1:00pm - 2:30pm
Description: Have you been begging your parents for a pet? Are you trying to convince them that you have what it takes to be the best pet owner? If that sounds like you, come join our pet owners workshop, hosted by the Humane Society, and come away with a certificate that proves you know what you're doing. This workshop will tackle basic dog and cat pet care, what to do in emergencies, and provide an overview of the adoption process at the Humane Society. We hope to see you there! Unfortunately, no four-legged friends allowed at this event (with the exception of service animals).
Staffing: 1 library staff member and 2 members of the local Humane Society.
Budget: n/a, the Humane Society has graciously donated their time to the library.
Date & Time: Thursday, July 27 @ 11:00am-12:00pm
Description: Remember the field journal you made earlier? Now you can use it! Join our local birdwatching group for a guided nature walk and birdwatching event. We will meet at the library's front steps at 11am and then we will head out on our walk. This will be an easy, slow paced walk and we welcome everyone to join us. We'll be walking on paved surfaces, so this event is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Space is limited, so be sure to register in-person at the library or on the library's website.
Staffing: 1 library staff member and 2 members of the birdwatching club.
Budget: $40 for trail snacks.
Come guess how many cat stickers are in the jar! Winner takes home the jar contents and a book.
If you are unable to visit the library to guess in person, a picture of the jar and its contents is posted on IPL's Facebook page, and guesses can be submitted using our guessing form found here.
Good luck!
