Great Britain /United Kingdom is an untenable proposition it should be dismantled and broken up into its constituent parts.
Why is that? What's wrong with it?
The assumption is made that because Great Britain exists it has always done so.
That it works or it would not have lasted so long.
That it can't be all bad, and any way what's the alternative?
Living in England it might be easier to make these assumptions or ask these questions when faced with the bald statement of dismantling the UK.
While English people may not all have seen much of the advantages they have also not seen all the disadvantages.
Making the same statement north or west of the respective borders in Scotland or Wales could produce much different responses. And in the 6 Co's of Northern Ireland of course depending on who was asked the response would be totally different.
People wherever they live only really see what directly affects them.
Those living in Scotland Wales and the 6 Co's have by and large much less say in their own affairs than the English appear to enjoy.
Why because the governing organizations present in these places are not sovereign bodies. They can not decide everything that effects the lives of the people who reside there, they have strictly limited 'Powers' of what can or can't be discussed or decided there.
The people of Scotland Wales and the 6 Co's are still ultimately governed by England via Westminster.
Westminster is whatever the English may maintain to the contrary, still an English parliament for an English people.
A parliament that is structured to run the Capitalist economic system for the benefit of the powers that control the purse strings.
It was particularly invidious for two Scots Tony Blair & Gordon Brown to deny their own people any right to determine their own future for the political expediency of Labour achieving a usable majority in England’s Westminster Parliament.
Any notion of 'Citizenship' based on such a false premise of ‘Britishness’ that yolks Welsh: Scots: Northern Irish and English to a colonial plough condemning Ireland to perpetual division and England and the English to political social and cultural schizophrenia is particularly invidious.
The only people that stand to benefit from this precept being the Fascists and Capitalist entrepreneurs.
What of the 'Bodies' provided by the English Westminster Parliament for the political administration of Wales; Scotland and the 6 Counties of Northern Ireland?
The Laws in Wales Acts 1535–1542 refer to two Acts of Parliament {Westminster} in 1546 & 1543 by King Henry VIII to annex the Welsh legal system and thereby Wales to be hereafter governed by England, the Rule being cemented by declaring Wales a 'Principality' a Serfdom of the English Monarch's primary male offspring. The Prince of Wales obviating any semblance of being an idividual part of the'Union' and enabling its exclusion from the British 'National Emblem' the Butchers Apron of the Union Jack.
The Welsh Assembly was set up as a sop to the political aspirations of Welsh Nationalism, to serve as a cul- de sac to such ambitions with strictly limited administrative leeway in what it could hope to achieve. The Welsh being served worse than the Scots because English politicians felt that Welsh Nationalism was significantly weaker with considerably less public support for anything other the Welsh language. Frankly they were right Plaid Cymru had embarrassingly gone through a phase at least in part of down playing aspirations for ultimate independence of Wales, to try and broaden there base of support. They were torn between support and opposition to the Assembly, ultimately deciding to use it as a political platform from which to propagate their ideas, pragmatically able to make use of what could be got out of it while pointing out its disadvantages short of complete Welsh Independence.
The Scottish 'Parliament' was set up for all the same reasons as per the Welsh Assembly and was provided with nominally more political leverage than the Welsh Assembly, simply because the Westminster Government felt that Scotland contains a greater support from its people of Scotland's right to independence. The Scottish Nationalist SNP were faced with the similar political dilemma as Plaid Cymru, and took the same path for essentially the same reasons.
As ever the most intractable position exists in the 6 Counties of Northern Ireland? Why?
Wales & Scotland have existed since time immemorial as sovereign entities now long since governed by a separate countries parliament.
The 6 Counties of Northern Ireland had always been part of an independent and sovereign country Ireland. Ireland as a country became governed by a seperate countries {England's} Parliament.
Even under that colonial arrangement it was ruled for 800+ years as a single political, social, cultural and economic entity of 4 provinces {Ulster; Munster; Leinster; Conaught; of 32 Counties} as an act of
political expediency it was partitioned on 3rd May 1921 under the Government of Ireland Act 1920. The historic Irish Province of Ulster consists in every way imaginable of 9 Counties, this Partition of Ireland also partitioned Ulster. Thus the Unionists pledge to be able to speak as the 'Only true Voice of Ulster being as baseless as any other of their pronouncements.
The essentially important ramifications of the Northern Ireland Assemblies existence is that this gerrymandered province is not in any way shape or form an independent entity, it can not be considered as in any way similar to Wales OR Scotland. Why is that an issue?
Because the unionist's {ALL of the political bodies within the 6 Counties that seek to retain the Union i.e. remain part of Britain} felt pushed into a political corner by the Assembly especially by the way it was promoted and set up. Elements of them are beginning to see the only way out politically is for the 6 Counties to be promoted as a 'Totally Autonomous Entity' effectively a separate 'Country' as per Wales and Scotland, for it to be considered on a par with their recognised 'National Status'.
The rational being that if they are being politically sidelined as essentially 'British' even by their traditional allies the Tories then they must carve out a different identity for their particular 'Cabbage Patch' if need be their 'Northern Ireland' becomes a 'Sovereign Country'.
This makes it imperative for the 6 counties to be considered as in every way Irish and NOT British, ALL attempts at it being given even in an illusive way Independent Status should be resisted in every conceivable way imaginable.
