2020 of the Christian calendar and just where are the ‘ISM’s’ of yesteryear?

Where have they got US the people of today?

I ask these questions as much as anyone of myself for at 72 still I feel an unreconstructed Socialist, with no need felt to apologise for it nor for myself. Now I know what makes the world tick I find that each day that passes, confirms me in my particular views and outlook on Life the Universe & Everything else under the sun.

I have to speak my mind and express my considerations of the world around me, doing so online enables an ease of style and purpose unavailable elsewhere. If nothing else they can be as notes in the sand or left in a bottle, to float on the tide for whoever may find them to make of them what they will.

For me some things remain constant whatever ill winds of political misfortune may blow our way, after all manure still stinks whatever name it goes by and I refuse to simply re-cycle urine and re-label it as champagne.

As it exists Capitalist society stands in judgement of those who reside within it, for those who need, rely on and make a comfortable living from it its existence is so essential as not to be considered let alone questioned.

Why to be without the assets of house, car, lifestyle those zillion and 1 intangibles that so comprise their being, as to make life meaningless would be as to have no air to breathe. These characters will see it defended at whatever cost it takes, to someone else’s life and liberties BUT never their own if it can be at all avoided.

For those of us who actually consider its uses and abuses, Capitalism stands as a blight on humanity and must be expunged forthwith without delay.

I'll outline here my own political evolution with a suitable exposition of salient points, developing aspects tangentially as appropriate.

This site is useful for outlining my political viewpoint but ideally I would prefer to be able to put it into practice via a political organisation.

My original intro into politics around 1975 was into the revolutionary socialist world of the left wing group International Socialist the forerunner of the Socialist Workers Party.

An interest in learning more of Irish history led me to into reading James Connolly as a principle source for information being both a leading historical interpreter and protagonist. I became enlightened and convinced of the principles of Republican Socialism.

The underlying arguments I will describe in detail in Draig, this is by way a synopsis of how I came to my present course. The essence though was Connolly’s, a realisation of the absolute necessity of uniting Republicanism and Socialism into a coherent whole.

There is a left wing assertion especially from those with Irish antecedents of there being a dichotomy, between the Red and the Green between the Red of Socialism and the Green of [Irish] Nationalism / Republicanism.

But that is only from the orthodox left wing perspective emanating from the Communist Party and Trotskyite left, those that simply concern themselves with the gospel according to Marx; Lenin; Trotsky. If they haven’t expressed an opinion on it then their acolytes, don’t bother to even consider it as in any way relevant.

While James Connolly realised there is no such dichotomy, its actually a matter of common sense of socialism, rooted in and emanating from the peoples culture of the land concerned.

In other words the Welsh Socialist Republic will be a republic with the welsh language and culture, informing every aspect of its existence.
The socialism of course meaning its a peoples republic, one by for and of the Welsh people.

Having come to it I realised the need to use it to interpret my own background and feelings relating to it, that of being English with Welsh antecedents.

My politics having evolved from my first exposure to political discourse I am left with how to manifest it. Political activity via issues/causes is easy enough simply involving a concentration on the matters at hand.

The decision of greater political involvement for me was principally a matter of determining where and how I could best express my views.

My political evolution had taken me from a practical and pragmatic standpoint away from the direct revolutionary road to one that involved taking on the system from within, involving participation in ‘mainstream politics’. Residing in England it meant considering the options campaigning over issues, and politically spreading them.

Campaigning over the issues of Republicanism led me to Republic as a useful Campaign/Pressure group with which to propagate essential Republican ideas to a public essentially oblivious to them, making it hopefully easier to do so than by interjecting my own views directly.

Pragmatically it meant finding a political party that came closest to any form of republicanism, given the general dearth of understanding of any aspect of the subject it’s not that easy to come by.

The general consideration of the monarchy on the left in general centres around Apathy; veering from "It's a diversion from The Class Struggle comrades", to acquiescence virtually waiting for an invite from Buck House or some sign of royal acknowledgement for their sycophantic toadying.
