Here are descriptions of common flora unique to Arascon.
Bloodroot
This strange spindly plant grows along the ground in forests underneath dead leaves. It has no leaves, no bark and no fruit. in essense, it is just a root that occassionally pops through the ground in places. The root is soft and squishy. Conrtary to its name, it is white. When broken apart, a thin, white fluid flows from the plant, giving the impression that it is bleeding. The liquid is an excellent disinfectant both externally and internally. The liquid is dried into a white powder and made into pills that people with fever are often given to reduce their temperature.
Cadé Bush
This is a short bush that grows red ovular berries that are about an inch in length during the Rebirth season. The berries are common and edible. They have a semi-thick skin. The skin is slightly salty and the flesh is sweet, but solid. Cadé berry is popular for pies, cakes, juices and wines. The bush grows about 2 feet in height, but can spread over large patches of land. The wood is a dark brown color and the leaves are small, waxy and dark green.
Crea
A wildflower that commonly grows in the same area as peppel grass. The green-blue flowers are edible and taste slightly bitter and salty. The Crea flower is known for its long white stem and cone shaped flower.
Honeypulp Tree
The Honeywood is a tall, fast growing tree with a sticky sweet sap that looks like honey. While it doesn't taste like honey, it is still quite sweet and crystalizes very quickly. The leaves of the honeywood tree are greenish yellow with three prongs. In Rebirth, it blooms with small yellow flowers that eventually turn into small yellow nuts. The nuts are completely inedible- bitter and poisonous. On average, the tree grows to be about 10 feet tall and can provide nice shade and a sweet scent.
Icewood Tree
The Icewood tree is the most common hardwood tree in Arascon. It grows to about a maximum of 12 feet in height. It's trunk on average has a diameter of about a foot. The wood of the Icewood is a pale peach color, however the bark is a smooth white and blue which is where the tree gets its name. The tree can survive cold temperatures, but it thrives in temperate areas. The leaves of the icewood are a light green color and fairly round in shape. During the cold, instead of falling off, the leaves curl into small balls. The tree blooms small four petal blue flowers during the latter parts of the Twinsuns season. These flowers pollinate the Icewood fruit that grows during Monsoon. The fruit is a milky white color with a delicate skin. The fruit is edible and fairly popular. It is tart, soft and fairly juicy.
Lytes
This is another wildflower. While the small yellow flower is not edible, if it is ground into a pulp it is known to stop bleeding. The flower has three bright yellow petals and a long orange stamen. It grows close to the ground and prefer shady areas.
Peppel grass
This is a tall grass common to most of Arascon. It is a greenish yellow color and grows wild in most areas. During the rebirth season it grows long stalks that have thin yellow flowers that peel away and turn to a series of long narrow seeds that are light enough to be picked up by the wind. The seeds can be ground into flour that is generally used to make light, fluffy pastries. The flour tastes slightly sweet and nutty.
Rorkmoss
Rorkmoss grows on the underside of rocks. It is a red and green moss that is spongy when moist and hard when dry. It can live in variable temperatures and thrives in moist conditions, growing almost an inch a day. It is known for treating burns and healing skin blemishes. It is edible as well, though few people go out of their way to eat this flavorless pulp. It is hypothesized that the name comes from someone who mispronounced "rock" the name stuck as rorkmoss instead of rockmoss.
Sag Tree
The sag tree grows to about 15-20 feet in height and has an approximately 2 foot diameter trunk. Its long, thin leaves are a rich green color and sag downward from its long spindly limbs. Its bark is a reddish brown color and fairly rough. During the Rebirth season, it produces small dark red berries that are inedible.
Whistler Tree
This is a tropical tree that grows along the coast lines. The trees generally grow to be about 7-20 feet tall and have a Y shaped trunk that is covered in green bark. At the top of each of the branches sprout stiff white leaves that are shaped like tubes. When the wind blows across the tree, it is common for the trees to whistle. During Twinsuns, the trees bloom with this red flowers that sprout through the middle of the rolled leaves looking like tongues. During Whitefall, the trees drop long, finger shaped nuts that are edible. The nuts are sweet and almost fruity in flavor.
Wilkwood Tree
The Wilkwood tree is a hardwood that grows to be between 30 and 50 fifty feet in height and on average has a trunk with a diameter of 7 -12 feet. It is the largest tree that grows in the country of Arascon. When live, the wood is a black color with a smooth black bark that is speckled with dark purple. The bark peels off during the monsoon when the tree experiences growth due to the rains. It has large, dark green leaves that are bifurcated. During the end of Whitefall, the leaves change to a purple or violet color and shed. They bud again during the second month of Rebirth. During the time the leaves fall, the Wilkwood produces large, orange sized nuts that are edible, but taste awful.
