This section describes the mythical creatures of Arascon. These are creatures from story and legend, similar to how we view things like ghosts, faeries, gremlins and angels. There is no proof for them, but a strong feeling that they do exist and effect things. These creatures come from legends, myths and stories. They are commonly believed in by the people of Arascon though there is no real proof that they exist.
Ahsed
The Ahsed is also known as the Water Worm. It is a giant snake-like creature that lives in the Cove of Lost Names. Whenever a ship mysteriously disappears, it is said to be the work of an ahsed. In legends, the ahsed wraps itself completely around the ship and squeezes it until it breaks, feeding upon the men who fall into the sea by swallowing them whole.
Crux
Crux are responsible for the spread of disease according to the folk stories of Arascon. Crux are pale white people with long black hair. They are often portrayed as having elongated features: long fingers, noses and limbs in general. They travel by night under the light of a green lantern, bringing their disease from one village to the next. There is said to be a legion of Crux for all of the different diseases in the world. The worst, of course, are those that spread the rotting plague and the green death. It is said that they spread their disease by their silent song. The song is supposed to be a discordant wail that is unable to be heard by the human ear- however, animals can hear the song. So, it is believed that whenever hunting dogs and horses panic or howl for no reason, that they are hearing the song of a Crux.
Ethers
The Ethers are thought to be messengers of the Gods. In legends they have a translucent physical form that seems like it is made from smoke and quicksilver. They can move on the wind and disappear from sight and appear anywhere they wish. They are often envisioned as tall women who wear long dresses that flow around them in constant movement. The Ethers are said to act as guides for people who are lost. According to legends, Ethers travel on the Ethereal Plane- a plane that connects everything by mere steps. It is also believed that the Ethers are responsible for dreams, giving them to people by blowing them into their ear right as they fall asleep.
Phoenix
While no one has ever seen a phoenix, their myth persists in Arascon and it is even on the country's crest and the national animal. Arasconians believe in rebirth and the phoenix symbolizes this rebirth and the underlying belief that founded their country. From destruction and ash, great things can be rebuilt and reborn. The phoenix is often depicted as a bird with grand blue plumage- like that on the Toril Crest.
Revni
Revni are the creatures people believe are responsible for accidents and accidental deaths. When something falls without provocation or things break without reason- this is said to be the work of the revni. Accidental deaths like when someone falls from a ladder or trips and hits their head are blamed on the revni as well. The revni are small round black creatures made from the ill will that people feel toward one another. They are the essence of the unspoken daydreams, fantasies and momentary hatred and annoyance toward people. It is said that every time someone wishes accident or death on someone, a revni is created.
