After Christmas ( high temp of 68 degrees), we left home on Tuesday just before the forecast was about to change to a more wintery scenario.
A picture our neighbor, Ken, sent to us from his deck. He wanted to let us know what we were missing. 😂
T.O. Fuller State Park was the first state park open for African Americans east of the Mississippi River. A Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in the area initiated construction of the park facilities in 1938.
Kitties are beginning their 21st year of RV camping.
Twiltley Campground is the only full-service campground managed by the Corps of Engineers at Okatibbee Lake, a 11,000 acre multi-purpose recreation area in eastern Mississippi.
Site 8 with water and electric.
We met some new camp neighbors, Lyle and Donna, to whom we had a great time around the campfire. They also nicknamed us Ragnar and Lagertha from the Vikings TV show. 😂+
Donna warned us about the muddy and not so sandy beach.
We did not heed her warning and ended up on a little adventure and a whole lot of mud.
We first heard about this place from some friends we made at Holiday campground in 2022. It's a small, quaint campground with views of Bon Secour Bay connected to Mobile Bay.
View out of the front window of the RV from site #10.
Looking back at the campground from the pier.
George, the resident heron, is having a stare down with the kitty.
A close up of George.
Scenes from the bedroom window....Beautiful moon over the bay.
Fire in the pit, beams of laser light, and fireworks in the background for this New Year's Eve.
While we don't see the sun setting, we do get the gorgeous colors.
Can't remember the last time we crammed into a photo booth... unfortunately it was out of order... that didn't stop us from getting the picture.
We had to impose Melina into the photo, she was missing for this 3 caricature cut out.
Fun with blow Christmas decorations.
So much for dry January...Bushwacker's for everyone!
Lisa & Greg were invited over for "special" tacos🌮 and who knew that Redneck Tacos would be a hit! We used taco shells, with mashed potatoes, hotdogs, condiments, and of course, cheese, glorious cheese🧀!
The inaugural Bushwacker party was a huge success thanks to Tammy, "Baby" and all our new camping friends!
Afternoons in the sun ☀️ enjoying our Bay Breeze neighbors. 🍻 Pictured: Margo who lives a couple of miles from us in STL, Cindy & Dave from New York, Susan & Mike from Arkansas.
Fun with friends, Mike and Susan.
Cindy and Peter from Wisconsin were part of the fun before heading to Texas for the winter
The beginning of the Pine Beach Trail wonders among sandy pines and myrtle oaks.
The last quarter mile of the Pine Beach Trail takes you through dunes.
The reward of the hike is the beach (with so many seashells and not so many people) on the Gulf of Mexico side of the peninsula.
The worst of any weather while we were at Bay Breeze. Luckily no tornadoes in Gulf Shores.
Sunset at the Pink Pony Pub located on the beach at Gulf Shores, AL.
This fun establishment has been around since the 1950's, surviving spring breakers and hurricanes.
Met up with Donna, Lyle, his brother and wife in Mobile for lunch.
Giggles after lunch at Felix's Fish Camp in Mobile
George looked quite ominous as we prepared to leave on a rainy Friday morning.
Bear Lake was partially drawn down to reduce unwanted vegetation along the shoreline. This partial draw down will allow for unwanted vegetation to be reduced through winter freezes and did it get cold (18 degrees after a previous days high of 71 degrees).
Kitties must have seen the sign that said alligators present and didn't want to be left alone in their camping chair. Luckily we never saw any gators, probably due to the cold night time temperatures.
Our view from site #10 with water and electric.
Black bear sculptures in the camping area.
Bummer to hike over to Krul Lake and find it drained for what looks to be construction work during the winter months. At least it was a sunny, warm day (71 degrees).
The Sweetwater Trail starts at Bear Lake Campground and runs a little less than three miles round trip. On the way to Krul Lake the trail has a boardwalk, suspension bridge over Sweetwater Creek, and a gristmill.
Go to Florida and snowbird they said...it will be warm. 😅🤣😂 The arctic blast is worse at home and at least we get above freezing during the day.
Kitties are cuddled up in the small but toasty bathroom next to the heat vent.
The Bear Lake Loop has a nice mix of sand/pine needle/gravel and boardwalks that follow the shore.
These little pine trees wish they were 🌴palm trees. 🤣 They are sprinkled throughout the hike.
The Bear Lake Loop Trail encircles the lake and is four miles long. We were camped across from where this photo was taken.
The site itself was a nice gravel pad with full hookup however the views were disappointing after seeing the photos on Hipcamp. The lake was very low and looked marshy rather than being a place for a pleasant kayaking experience . The cottage and RV pad was far nicer than most of the lots in the area. It seemed over priced for the area.
View out the front window.
View towards the lake .
It was just ok, the weather was cold the first part of the week and then warm and rainy the second half of the week.
Lynn Haven Bayou Park and Preserve is a place to hike and find beauty in the natural world. It may be one of the prettiest city parks that I've seen, great trails and nice views.
This is a return visit to this campground. We really enjoy Ochlockonee Bay view out the front window from site #2 a full hookup, pull-in spot.
Sunshine and warmth in site #2, a pull in, full hook up site.
A little rain gave way to beautiful colors on the horizon for sunset.
Smokin' BBQ and local yumminess at Hamaknockers! Went back a few days later to stock up on ribs, chicken, brisket, and their sweet and tangy sauce.
Pulled pork nachos with pulled pork (optional black olives and jalapenos available).
You can't go wrong with smoked ribs and four different sauces to put on it.
The first sunset with the sun actually in the picture for this trip.
Alligator Point, a narrow beach peninsula that boasts eight miles of uncrowded shoreline, great for long walks on the beach to find seashell treasures.
New friends from New Mexico, Micky and Laura, as well as Ron and Rose from Iowa City. Great afternoon with great music playing and warm sunshine!
Leaving just yards from the Lodge (The Lodge founder, Ed Ball was known for his toast at the lodge "confusion to your enemy") about every hour, the Jungle Cruise takes you on a nature tour from the Wakulla Springs (69 degrees year round) up the river about a mile and half and back. The area around the springs has been a venue for making movies like, Creature From the Black a Lagoon, Tarzan (in the 1930's) and other less known movies. The commentary from the guide's sense of humor and knowledge of the environment, wildlife, and history of the springs is excellent. It was a very enjoyable and inexpensive ($9 per ticket & $6 to park) experience. It was fantastic to see the alligators, manatees, mullet fish (leaping out of the water), turkey vultures, turtles, ducks (also known as swamp chickens), and herons in their environment. Tour tip, if you have polarized sunglasses use them for easy viewing of the all the critters.
One of the tour guests asked the guide if the gators eat the turtles that were also in the water. Yes, they like turtle tacos, a bit crunchy. 😂
This alligator scored a beaver for lunch. They say alligators might go six months between meals.
The turkey vultures could be spotted on their own "island" and are known to use vomit on their prey and to in defense against predators, ewww. 🫢
Manatee viewing from the dive tower. It's said that Columbus was disappointed over the finding of the manatees because they were thought to be mermaids. This is not the vision he had for mermaids. 🧜
Manatees also affectionately known as river potatoes 😂 were gliding peacefully through the water.
Right on the Steinhatchee River, this campground has four sites (water/electric 50A/Sewer) with sites 2 & 3 more in the open and a little larger than 1 & 4. This would be a great stay with friends where you could enjoy the really nice dock in the afternoon sun.
Looking across the Steinhatchee River toward the town.
Saturday we took a motorcycle ride up to Keaton Beach and back to Steinhatchee. Here we enjoyed beverages with the pelicans at Sea Hag Marina.
Sunrise on the water.
We were a week too early but this looks like fun. The 16th annual Crab Festival is next weekend (Feb 16th-18th).
Went to Fiddlers on the River where we met some fun locals and a couple of fishermen that shared their catch of the day, sea trout.
Took a motorcycle ride down to Horseshoe Beach where we caught a glimpse of the destruction left behind from hurricane Idalia (August 2023).
This house style seems appropriate for being located on the Gulf.
The small town of Steinhatchee is also still reeling from the effects of hurricane Idalia. Many of the local businesses are open but there are areas still being worked on.
We met Robert at the Sea Hag Marina where we made arrangements to go out on his airboat just before sunset.
Robert took the time to school us about airboats and the local rivers.
It was a very nice afternoon for our first ride on an airboat.
A favorite of ours, we truly enjoy meeting friends and this little nine site (over 21) campground. The sites are full hookup on gravel pads. We stayed on site #2 (closest to the tiki bar), while Claude and Sue were on site #5 (which was also a nice site). Site #1 is now where Lenny's food truck is placed.
This campground is known for their spectacular sunsets, and it does not disappoint.
The path that leads to fun and laughter at the Tiki Bar.
This is what happens when you stay too long at the bar, the strong arm of the bar slams down to let you know they are getting ready to close. 🤣
Morning sky reflected in the side of the RV.
Live music plays on the weekend to the courtyard next to the Tiki Bar.
More shenanigans!

A salute to the hurricane.
Superbowl Sunday celebration with Claude and Sue! Chiefs win, Chiefs win in overtime!
Food from Lenny's Food Truck located on site #1.
Look at the white specs on the island, those are pelicans hunkered down getting reading for the rain and wind. They were there for about 24 hours.
Neat campground with full hookup sites right on the Suwannee River. Each campsite is bordered by palms, bushes and trees (which makes cell signal and wifi limited). The campground also offers cable TV, internet, laundry room, shower house, pool and hot tub. The Suwannee River is one of the most undisturbed major rivers, beginning at the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia and emptying into the Gulf of Mexico, 20 miles down-river from Yellow Jacket RV Resort. The weather was somewhat uncooperative, it rained most of Saturday and all day Sunday. On Monday we were able to enjoy the weather and watch the Indy 500 that was postponed due to rain on Sunday.
Small, off the beaten path campground in a picturesque old Florida river town. We were in site #21 with Janne & Kia, Greg & Lisa in Site #11, and Tim & Sherry in Site #15.
Upon arrival, Don our camping neighbor said the Canadians, Claude and Susan, left a bag of welcome gifts. What a pleasant surprise!
View of the marina from camp spot #21.
The Jeep was ducked (with Viking ducks, of course) and I didn't even notice when I moved the Jeep into its parking spot.
Full moon over the marina.
Dinner at Blackwater Restaurant. Yummy 1/2 off appetizers all day Thursday. Such great appetizers, Asian BBQ shrimp in wonton cups, shrimp nachos with homemade hot sauce, bacon wrapped shrimp, and seared Ahi tuna.
A ride out on the curviest road in Florida 🤣, Ozello Trail Road, to Pecks for some banana split pie!
Riding, lunch and just a lot of fun! Crackers, Waterfront Social, and Pecks just to name a few places.
Jumbo shrimps at The Freezer Tiki Bar which offers a truly authentic Florida coastal experience that embodies the spirit of relaxation and enjoyment.~Homosassa, FL
Manatees near Three Sisters Springs
"Wild Hogs" 😅😂🤣 "I just wanna ride man, I just wanna ride!"
Scooter Haven for dildo races on the main stage, really? Yes.🤣
Yankeetown has a marker commemorating the shoot, and it also named a highway after Elvis, the Follow That Dream Highway.
Red Solo cup we fill you up...lets have a party.... Seagram & 7 for this captain.
Captain Randy and his first mate Carol, were kind enough to take us out for a day on their boat. We saw manatees on the way out to the gulf and then came back in and went up river to see the alligators basking in the sun on the shore.
The rides, the roar, the rally!
The Jungle Road as Lars calls it, but it's really the Old Dixies Highway.
Mill Top Tavern - St Augstine, FL
Caribbean Jack's the best dessert ever... Banana Foster
Rallies are hard, hahaha.
Sugar high from dessert or martinis?
Full Moon Saloon on Main Street with friends, bikes, and lots of laughs.
First stop on this particular day!
Next stop was Renegades on the River complete with tiki bar and campground on the St John's River.
Line'em up... heading to lunch at Shrimps R Us with some of Greg and Lisa's riding buddies.
To the Hideway Bar & Grill
Final stop at Ike's Saloon. It was a successful day of dodging rain drops.
More riding on the Old Dixie Highway.
Kicking off Sunday with Bloody Marys...ours weren't as fancy as the ones served at Cedar Key, 😂 but we tried.
83 West & 29 North at 83 West in Cedar Key.
Ground zero, where bikers go to rest, park their bikes and party on the patio at Greg and Lisa's!
Today's shenanigan plan was to head to the Harley dealer and Destination Daytona, which also includes lunch at Houligans.
Lisa found a shirt that Lars needed after losing the heat shield on the Indian while throttling up!😂 In case you can't read the male stripper pole t-shirt, it says, "private shows available, need bike parts."
A special event to remember a loved one is done in DeLand. Sign or write a message on the 75' wooden handmade bike before it is burned and all the written messages are sent up above to the ones we love. Check out the video from this year's Burning Bike 2024.
Boot Hill Saloon on Main Street, an old school biker bar established in 1973.
When we share drinks with friends we say, Skoal! or into the fog... well today, was literally into the fog!
The thickest sea fog rolled into Dayton today.
Fun at the Iron Horse.
Today's fun started out with getting septic tank emptied out!😅
Later that evening... apple crisp, new Swedish friends, "Mary & Joe", and horse races around the fire pit.
Good music lent itself to dancing in early afternoon at OB's Lounge
Off to Ponce de Inlet to see the captain, the Halifax River, and cold drinks.
And on to Off the Hook for some snacks.
Cruising Main Street.
Time to go by the Broken Spoke
Arrrrr and Yo Ho-Ho lets head to Flagler Beach to party like a pirate.
Hanging out people, bike, and car watching from the upper deck at Tortugas Florida Bar.
Too much torque, causes belt breakage, therefore missing out on brunch. That's a wrap on Bike Week.
Lars earned his "wings" and is already pointing to future rallies. Great two week in Daytona.
The campground had Spanish moss-draped oaks along the Ogeechee River (which was flooded). Last time we were in the area we visited Savannah and Tybee Island, this time we visited Jekyll Island.
While looking for interesting roads to ride on in Georgia we came across this tank sign around Fort Stewart, an Army post.
Jekyll Island has a charming landscape with a national historic landmark district and low-key feel to the barrier island.
Sidney Lanier Bridge going across the Turtle River.
Zoom in and look at Lars on the Harley, it'll give you an idea of just how massive this tree is. Lover's Oak is one of the oldest Live Oaks in Georgia. The sprawling oak's true age is unknown, but it is estimated to be from the 12th century AD, with an age of approximately 900 years. The tree's name stems from a Native American legend alleging the tree as the meeting place between young lovers. The location of the tree is just south of the intersection of Prince Street and Albany Street, placing it in the Brunswick Old Town Historic District.
I took a moment to climb (luckily I had my orange jacket on to be seen) the massive 35 feet in circumference base. It has ten main "arms" or branches with the circumference of those being about three feet each. It is known for its wide canopy that provides shade on those hot Georgia summer days.
St. Patrick's Day at Mad Maggie's Brew Pub.
Green beer and Irish lunch (Irish Fries - fries, corn beef, and beer cheese) in a Viking themed bar.
Pot O' Gold Margarita at Creek Fire RV Resort's restaurant. This campground is a nice place to stay near Savannah. It has a pool, restaurant, bar, waterfront sites, and more.
Watsadler Campground is located near the Hartwell Dam overlooking the "Big Water" section of the lake. This campground has a total of 51 sites, all with electric (50-amp) & water hook ups. Most sites in the campground are waterfront with a fantastic view of the lake! This campground features both single and double sites.
Morning out on the peninsula on site # 6. Most of the sites in this campground were on the water. It was just a beautiful campground on the water.
In our peninsula there were only two other campsites, nice.
Harrison Bay State Park is a 1,200 acre park with approximately 40 miles of Chickamauga Lake shoreline, and was originally developed as a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) recreation area in the 1930s. Its name is derived from a large bay at the main channel of the Tennessee River that covers the old town of Harrison, and the last Cherokee Campground. There are 128 RV campsites with water and electrical hookups and a limited number can accommodate RV’s up to 65 ft.
On our way to Harrison Bay we went through the Georgia mountains and found this little alpine village with Bavarian buildings on the Chattahoochee River. We definitely will come back and camp in the area. It would be beautiful in the fall.
It was very scenic taking the 348 west to to the 180 along the Richard B Russell Scenic Byway, even with the very curvy and 12% grade roads. The road around this area would make a great motorcycle ride!
We enjoyed the cafe that was at marina. It had ribs with raspberry BBQ sauce, french bread with shrimp & crab dip, and wonderful home made desserts.
This park has hiking and cycling trails that skirt the lakeshore.
This is loop C where we stayed. The optimum sites to view the lake and have level spots are in loop A. Loop B sites have a lot of slope to them.
By 1972 Star Trek had come and gone and the possibility of alien life was fully lodged into the cultural consciousness. Curtis King embraced this extraterrestrial vibe and built the Spaceship House for his son in 1972, tucking it away in the woods near Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Read more here.
Tenbridge is a vertical-lift railroad bridge over the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It has a main span of 310 feet. The original span was a swing span with a center pivot that was originally built in ca. 1879/1880. Looks like someone has quite a view from the sky office.
Lunch at River Drifters included chicken teriyaki and pineapple tacos with slaw and a jumbo shrimp po' boy with remoulade sauce.
Kentucky Lake viewed from Lakeside Campground.
