So, we met these fabulous campers (Greg & Lisa) in Ochlockonee Bay, FL and then came to visit them once they returned home to Ormond Beach, Fl. We have laughed on the beach, gone out to eat a few times, and stopped by their house for a lot of laughs. Look, they also introduced us to the Bananas Foster dessert at Caribbean Jack's in Daytona. It was fabulous!
Bananas Foster made from bananas and vanilla ice cream, with a sauce made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur.

Gulf View was a layover between being in Key West and heading north the Cedar Key. We thought it would be fairly uneventful and we would just be taking it easy. On Sunday we went to the Edison Ford Winter Estate, Monday we met up with a friend (Teresa) who lives in Ft Meyers and was having a birthday, Tuesday we took a motorcycle ride to Pine Island and met another couple (Nick & Susan) from St Louis, and Wednesday was a travel day to Cedar Key, FL.
The Edison and Ford Winter Estates contain a historical museum, 21 acre botanical garden, and laboratory with the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford beside the Caloosahatchee River in Southwestern Florida.
In the laboratory, Edison experimented with using plant and tree fibers as a filament for his electric lights.

"You won’t be stopping at Cedar Key on your way to someplace else. The closest cities, Ocala and Gainesville, and the main route, I-75, are 60 miles away. The charming little town, with fewer than 1,000 permanent residents, has a fascinating history (it’s Florida’s second oldest town) and dozens of interesting old buildings. With no high-rises and no franchise restaurants, Cedar Key feels untouched by today’s world." Florida Rambler.com

Apache Family Campground is known for its pier and many amenities, like store, pool, planned activities, and restaurant. The camp spots are not on the ocean per say, but with in walking distance. The Myrtle Beach area is very Branson, MO or Pigeon Forge, TN like. It has a lot of shows, theater, go cart tracks, and mini golf. We did go to the Pirate Voyage Dinner & Show, which was a cute pirate story with a lot of action and used live animals, like Salty the sea lion.

On the morning walk this horseshoe crab was up on the beach, maybe because it was so chilly. The windchill was 39 degrees, brrrr.
The campground has about 4 big nests full with what looks to be osprey.

We stayed here in 2008 (slideshow without captions) and were looking forward to the vast views but the weather had other plans. Up on the mountain (elevation 3346 feet) the temperatures were more like late fall, early winter with low temperatures in the 30s-40s and high temperatures in 40s-50s with fog and rain. Needless to say we didn't drive the Skyline Drive until we left for the next stop on this trip.
