On May 19th we purchased a replacement RV and made plans to head back towards Mobile, AL to see what more we could salvage from our previous RV that caught fire on the Gulf Coast Loop trip.
Purchased, May 19, 2023 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
Back on the road May 25, 2023.
Last look and visit of the 2014 Canyon Star, May 26, 2023.
Unbelievable
The last items to be salvaged from the fire.
The extended Memorial day weekend was extremely peaceful in the Outside Inn Tree Farm & Mill campground. Found this place on Hipcamp. The host has 4 sites plus primitive camping on 40 acres.
The driveway down to camp.
This was the Pine Site with 50amp electric and water and our first night camping in the new rig.
Overview of the campsites on the property. The host has a 5th wheel under the pole barn, with a full hook up spot right next to it. There was one other couple that came to camp for 2 nights while we were there. The host offers a yurt for rent too. We would definitely come back to this location.
Happy to be out camping again.
We were meant to see our friends Greg and Lisa back in April, but never made it to Bay Breeze. While we were in the area on this trip we arranged to meet up with them near Jacksonville, Fl. Island Oaks offered a lot of amenities, so many that we barely left the campground except for a beer or grocery run. We enjoyed the restaurant, tiki bar, pool, hot tub, swimming lake, and general store.
Julie Newmar (left side RV) and FRED Newmar (FRont Engine Diesel, right side RV) are camping in buddy sites. All of us are enjoying our new to us RVs.
A little campground fun trying out Greg's e-bike.
Movie night! A night of Wild Hogs. 🏍️
We found the Tiki Bar by the pool!
Greg and Lisa made this very thoughtful gift to hang in the new RV. It's the Phoenix rising out of the ashes to camp another day!
The swimming lake was surrounded by nice, soft sand.
Testing out the kayak
Our new campground friend from Costa Rica came bearing gifts. One day he brought poached chicken wings and another day he brought afternoon coffee (the way they make it in his culture) and cookies.
Lars communicating through a translation app. The one thing our new amigo said, that we all understood was, "memories, memories," as we all laughed and enjoyed each other's company.
You know you are in for some fun when the beer truck comes into the campground!
White Oak Creek Park Campground is located right on the shores of Walter F. George Lake (also known as Lake Eufaula) on the Georgia and Alabama border and has 130 sites with electric(50amp) and water hookups.
Our site was #68. Most sites were directly on the water, which made for enjoyable views.
Kitty is not too concerned about all the storms that are around.
Weather has been wet with a lot of sever thunderstorm and tornado warnings.
After the afternoon storm warning, we learned on the national news that the town about four miles north of us was hit by a tornado.
While out on a motorcycle (one of the only days that didn't rain) we came across the historic Holman House, is a neoclassical residence built in Ozark, Alabama, during 1912-1913. The home consists of two main floors, of approximately 10,000 square feet, and a basement of approximately 5,000 square feet, but look at that top floor peering out onto Broad Street.
Deerlick Creek Campground is located on Holt Lake on the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway northeast of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The facility has thick forest along the shoreline of the lake, which means you can't see much of the lake from most sites. We were in site #26, which was a tight fit, but later moved to site #20 which was a really nice, wooded site.
Monday in the campground is very quiet, as you can see no one on our end of the loop.
Site #20 was great, very long, concrete pad with a very private outside area with picnic table and fire pit.
We found a great little restaurant, Fujiyama, not too far from the campground. We had the sushi 🍣 for dinner with the crab angels (you could actually see and taste the crab) and pot stickers as appetizers. We liked the food so much we ordered a whole new order of entrées and appetizers to take back to the campground. Before we left town, we went back for round two, sushi and appetizers for dinner and entrées and appetizers to take on the road. A really delicious surprise! 😋
Beach area at the campground.
Situated on eighty acres between the levee and the Mississippi River, Warfield Point Park offers one of the few locations directly on the river with beautiful panoramic views. The grounds are mowed but the fire pits and shower house have not been well maintained.
My first sunset photo of the trip.
Thor is looking for more barges going up and down the Mississippi.
More severe thunderstorm warnings. We have had a lot of those while visiting Alabama and Mississippi.
Tar Camp Park is situated near Pool 5 Lock and Dam on the Arkansas River and offers about 50 sites. NIce, close up views of the river. Campsites attractive, level and paved with covered picnic tables. The temperatures while here were between 94 and 104 degrees, but it was not too bad in the shade with a light breeze.
Sunrise coffee before the heat settles in for the day.
Early week solitude, very few campers when you arrive on a Monday. Site #D-13
Willow Beach Campground, located near the David D.Terry Lock and Dam of the Arkansas River, offers 21 campsites with electric and water hookups.
Today we had a brief encounter with a former NFL player, Laurence Piller. Not knowing who he was, Lars stopped him to ask about his Quickie Cart (golf cart). He was such a friendly camper who shared his two Superbowl (size 22) rings and a few stories with us. We truly enjoyed his visit.
We have always said if you leave our campsite hungry, then we can't help you. There is always so much good food. One night Tim smoked meats and fish, one night Roger made leg of lamb in a suvi, and another night we hosted the shrimp boil.
Sunset just before watching the Little Rock fireworks.
Nicole and Roger enjoy one of the many sunsets from this campground.
Greenville Recreation Area is located on the northern end of Wappapello Lake Project, nestled on the banks of the St. Francis River. The campground is built on the original site of the historical Old Greenville City. The Memory Lane trail winds along the historical foundations and streets offering a glimpse back in time. The Greenville Trail, a three mile hike or bike trail, connects the modern city of Greenville to the campground.
The weather was finally cool enough to go on a motorcycle ride around the area and it did not disappoint. Truly enjoyed the morning ride with cool temps, sunshine, and curvy roads.
We found a little restaurant, Trails End Cafe, in Greenville. I had the Green Vegas and Lars had the Knuckle Sammy both were delicious. Great way to round out our motorcycle ride.
On my morning campground walk-about I found this tree carving in the Old Greenville cemetery and a map of Old Greenville where the campground now resides.
Large sites with full hookup.
Last Happy Hour before heading home.
