William Grant “Bill” Hennekey (1954-1995)

Bill Hennekey was born in Rochester, New York on January 5, 1954. He attended the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, graduating in 1976. He joined the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity on September 9, 1973 (BU #226). While at the University, Bill did volunteer work through Madison House. Madison House serves as the student volunteer center at the University of Virginia. Their purpose is to coordinate volunteers, develop leaders, build community partnerships and promote lifelong volunteer service. Madison House organizes service programs to address the needs of the community as well as the educational and personal growth objectives of students. Bill died in Houston, Texas on May 20, 1995. Tom Minnerman offered his eulogy at the Necrology held on April 10, 2011 at the UVA Chapel as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. --Biography prepared by Russell Haden Davis (Class of 1962) utilizing information from the Pi Kappa Phi National Office, the University of Virginia Alumni Association, from Corks & Curls (1976), and from Ancestry.com Thomas J. Minnerman wrote me [Russ Davis] the following: “Russ -- the boating pictures are from spring break 1976 at Bill's home outside Tampa Florida (Innsbrook??, some big golf resort). We [Tom & John LaPenta] camped at a KOA but hung out at his parent's home and used it as a base for fun.” NOTE: Top photo shows Bill with Matt House in one of the Pavilion gardens at UVA.
