Fewster

Class of 1985

Timothy Brandon "Brandy" Fewster (1962-2008)

Brandy was the quintessential all-American guy. Born and raised in Baltimore, he was a scholar and an athlete at St. Paul’s School, always showing quiet modesty in his achievements, a strong moral compass and easy-going humor. He was a good son, and a constant companion to his brother, Chris, and they were happiest when outdoors together, exploring the “wilds” of Baltimore.

Attending college at the University of Virginia, Brandy had the freedom to continue pursuing his many outdoor and athletic endeavors - rappelling at a nearby quarry (the site of his first date with Wendy), hiking and camping in the Blue Ridge mountains, cycling and running, among others. Wendy’s willingness to indulge his passions sealed the deal for him, and they married a year after graduation and headed off in a new direction with the Navy.

After nearly eight years with the Navy, in which he became a flight officer on the EA-6B Prowler and deployed in USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), Brandy decided his adrenaline-rush days of flying were numbered, as administrative duties increased, so he left active duty and earned his master’s degree in environmental engineering. Specializing in ground water issues, he was able to combine his intellectual pursuits with a legitimate excuse for being outside. He also proudly served with the Navy Reserve throughout the rest of his life, attaining the rank of Captain.

A life-long learner, rarely was there a time in Brandy’s life when he was not studying for or participating in an activity that would expand his knowledge, his service to his country, or further his career, he easily earned respect and loyalty from peers, superiors and subordinates alike.

Brandy achieved a long-time dream of having a home in the country, when he and Wendy found Froggy Bottom Farm a few years ago and began spending their free time there, in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge mountains.

Fatherhood was Brandy’s great joy. He spent hours sharing his love of the outdoors with Colby, romping on the farm, playing by the pond, and mowing the fields on his John Deere tractor. Colby delighted in time spent with his Daddy.

Today we celebrate a life that ended all too soon. Brandy’s life was both ordinary and extraordinary, and certainly was a life well lived. Thank you for sharing it with him.
