Classes and Workshops

The Upwey Potters run an assortment of classes and workshops.

These pages give information about the current ones.

Bill runs evening and afternoon classes - see this link for details.

Bill also sometimes runs pottery workshops at weekends during the winters, but not in 2024 until May (see annual exhibition).

Usually during events Bill and the other potters stage demonstrations and workshop sessions - take a look at the events pages to see about these.

It may also be possible to negotiate with the potters to run a private session for a group - as a party, away-day or even as a hen party! If this interests you then email to make enquiry  bill@upweypotters.com

Bill sometimes takes the Raku kiln on excursions, to do demonstrations and workshops. This is a photograph taken by Kim MacKeown at the Dorset Art Fair at Kingston Maurward in November 2011. Bill appeared at the Dorset Art Fair on 1st & 2nd June 2013. The Raku firing gear will fit in his car. The gas fired kiln is bottom right - it fits over the shelf bottom centre when heating up the pots to 1000C. When the glaze has melted the pots are taken out and put into the boxes with sawdust - that burns and removes the oxygen from the glazes - to promote copper lustres. The smoke also etches into the glaze crazing to stain and highlight the patterns. Bill's workshops feature this process, participants applying the glaze to ready made bowls and then watching them being fired. The bowls are proudly taken home at the end of the day.
