“The educational leader provides professional leadership across the district and also across the community,” (AASA, 2016).
Besides modeling ethical behavior, superintendents must understand that the actions and behaviors of their staff have a direct impact on how the community views them. Because of this, superintendents must be very clear in what their standards are, and provide opportunities for ethical education when needed.

Superintendents must understand that all of their actions, behaviors, and decisions not only affect the school, but also the community. Because of this, the Superintendents must always act with integrity and fairness, and in an ethical manner. The Superintendent provides guidance, and his/her behavior is the model for everyone (staff, students, parents, community members).

The National Education Association (2016) states,
“The educator, believing in the worth and dignity of each human being, recognizes the supreme importance of the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, and the nurture of the democratic principles. Essential to these goals is the protection of freedom to learn and to teach and the guarantee of equal educational opportunity for all.
