Murraya paniculata
Summary: An evergreen shrub or small tree with dark green feather-compound leaves and short clusters of scented white flowers
Leaves: Leaflets 5-7, alternately arranged, small, dark green, glossy with a terminal one.
Bark: Pale yellowish grey, become corky with age.
Flower: Pue white, scented, borne in small dense clusters at the ends of the branches and from the axils of the leaves with 5 overlapping petals (rarely 6)
Fruit: 1’’ long red, egg-shaped berries, which are pointed at both ends
Seasons: Flowering is mostly during summer and rain
Range/Habitat: Indigenous throughout the hotter parts of India, and in Malaysia, China, Polynesia and northern Australia
Trivia & Comments: Apart from the strongly yet beautifully scented flowers, this tree is much valued as a hedge.
Where to Find: In Rabindra Sarobar, it is the most common hedge plant but there are a few in tree form as well. One is outside Anderson club on the left-hand side towards gate 12 (Mother Dairy Gate) 22.51367, 88.36517
