Bengali: ulat kambal
A curious large quick growing shrub or a small tree with horizontal branches which are finely hairy. The leaves are of different shapes and sizes. Upper leaves are elongated triangular (lance) shaped but lowers ones are roundish and lobed. Flowers are maroon with five petals.
Bark: Greyish, smooth
Leaf: Multiple types and sized on the same tree. Upper branches bear elongated arrowhead or heart-shaped leaves. Lower branches bear round lobed leaves. All leaves are rough and thinly membranous.
Flower: Maroon colored, drooping, up to 2’’ across, has five petals.
Fruit: A membranous 5-winged capsule, containing many seed.
Range/habitat: Has a wide distribution from India to southeast Asia.
Season: Flowers during rainy season, fruits mature during winter to summer.
Trivia and notes: The tiny hairs on its leaves and branches cause irritation.
