The 2007 version of the Thomas Jafferson Jaguars looked to build upon the budding dynasty Coach Cherpak and his coaching staff have created at the school. The team lost many players from the previous season, but like in past years their were many players more than capable of filling in where the others left off. Ranked #1 again in the WPIAL and the state, their goals were high with returning 1,400 yard runner in Brian Baldridge and Fabulous 22 Pre Season, 28th ranked recruit in the country, and Pitt recruit Lucas Nix.
The season began with a bang behind new starting quarterback, junior Tyler Wehner who stepped into the role flying. The team though lost running back Brian Baldridge to a knee injury in the first game of the season, and he would be lost for the season. Later in the season, the team would also endure another huge set back when they lost Tyler Wehner, the #4 passing yardage leader in the WPIAL, before game six. Under normal circumstances this would spell doom for a team, but this was not a normal circumstance.
Seniors, Orlando Torres and Zach Decicco stepped in for Baldridge and Wehner and the Jaguars did not miss a beat behind a terrific offensive line and traditionally tough defense. The line included 2 senior starters Nix and Dave Bishoff, and 3 juniors Pat Eger, Rob McCall, and Sean Kundrat. Combined, they averaged 6'2" and 258 pounds per man. Torres turned in one the best years from the running back position by rushing for 1,577 yards and 26 touchdowns. Arthur James contributed with an additional 1,025 yards an 13 TD's. With Zach Decicco under center, the team was more run oriented, but had a terrific receiving group in Trevor Wildman and tight end Brock Decicco.
Defensively, they were as good as any defense in TJ's history by recording 4 shutouts and holding opponents under 10 points 10 times. They were led by shut down corner Wildman, Nix, Zach and Brock Decicco, Cory Smith, and linebackers Dave Bishoff and Nate Bota.
The team secured the 7th straight Big Seven Conference championship, and hammered their way through the WPIAL playoffs. They beat Montour 34-0 in the WPIAL finals, securing the school's 4th WPIAL championship, 3rd in last four years. The state playoffs were no different, winning convincingly in every game including the state championship the Jaguars would secure their second state championship in the last 4 years. The 2007 team is the first team in AAA state history to run the table at 16-0. Can anyone say Dynasty?
