 Overview of TPSGC’s Golf Tournaments

Tilden Park Seniors Golf Club (TPSGC) offers a variety of Home (at Tilden Park) and Away (other Bay Area courses) tournaments.

Only members of the Club can register for a tournament, and frequently guests of members can also be registered. Tournament competitors must have a current GHIN number (with our club or another club) (See Membership Application page), and must routinely post their golf scores to GHIN (See Posting Scores for Handicap page).

For both Home and Away tournaments, players are expected to follow USGA Rules of Golf along with our Club’s own Local Rules.  As a common courtesy to others on the course, we expect players to always maintain their pace of play (see Pace of Play Guidelines).

Most tournaments are net stroke play competitions with the lowest net scores winning the main prizes.  The club also offers match play competitions and scrambles.

At all tournaments, players can choose which tee they wish to play from (with their net scores adjusted by their calculated GHIN course handicaps for the tee they select).  A player’s CH is typically 2 to 6 stokes higher if they select the middle tees rather than the forward tees. This provides a benefit to those players who choose to play from the longer tees, compensating for the longer total yardage.  The computed CH also is higher for women than for men from the same tees based on the differing formulas for course rating and slope rating used by the USGA. For each tournament, players can use the GHIN app to compute their course handicap using different tees to help them with the tee decision.
