Signing up

Who is allowed to sign up and play?

Our Home Tournaments are intended for paying members of TPSGC only, with occasional allowances for guests such as when we have a fundraiser or a prospective member. Guests can be allowed on a limited basis and must be approved by the director for the event. If open slots exist at the time the pairings are mailed out, you may contact the director and request that an open slot be reserved from your guest. Generally we have 40 player slots reserved for an event, though for a fundraiser there will be many more slots.

How do I sign up? Where can I get information about the current event?

Since most events are in the third week of the month, a call for sign ups via Golf Genius email will go out two weeks prior to the event. The email will direct you to press the "Playing" button at the bottom of the email. Please contact the director of the tournament if you have not received an invitation. See above for the contact information for each type of event.

Is there a deadline for signing up?

For the Winter and Summer leagues it is generally the Saturday before the event played on the upcoming Thursday. For other home tournaments the deadline will be given in the invitation.

We generally send the pairings to the players and the Pro Shop the Monday or Tuesday before and we yield back to them any unused tee times, so it may be difficult to accommodate late sign ups so a wait list may be created.

How do I know I am registered for the tournament?

When you have signed up you will immediately receive a confirmation.

What if I am a member and didn't receive the email notice to sign up?

Please contact Carol Martin (cjm3939@sbcglobal.net) so that she can determine if there is an error in the email list.

Formats, Scoring, & Prizes

What scorecards will be used and how should they be submitted?

You will be using the Tilden course scorecard and will simply enter gross scores on each hole. After checking and verifying your scores, please turn your scorecards in as directed in the instructions you will receive with the pairings.

What formats are used?

We use individual stroke play for our tournaments, except for the usual scramble format. Handicaps are used to compute the net score (net score = gross score - course handicap).

What local rules do we use for play?

These are available on our Bulletin Board. For all SWL rounds we use our Winter Rules.

Do we post our own scores for Home Tournaments?

We post scores for the SWL, SSL, and President's Cup. We do not post scores for scrambles and match play.

Must I have a current index or handicap to play?

As a member you can play in our home tournaments but you can only compete for prizes and trophies if you have a current index.

What are the prizes?

For leagues and club championships there are small prizes in the form of Tilden Park gift cards, which can be used in the Pro Shop, the Bar, and the Grill, after each round in league play and at the conclusion of the league or championship. Scrambles have prizes too. Once you receive your first card, that same card should be retained and reloaded with future winnings.

In events where guests are allowed, can a guest win a prize?

Prizes are strictly reserved for members.

Payments & Cancellations

Is there a fee for playing in home tournaments?

No, you only pay the morning of the event in the Pro Shop for your greens fees and cart fee, if you use a cart. You may pay via any method you normally use to play a round at Tilden, namely, the senior rack rate, Players Club rate, or use your monthly senior card. There is one exception to the payments for our fundraiser if we are allowed to have one. Details will be provided on the fundraiser sign up sheet.

How do I cancel?

When you receive a confirmation of signing up, it will have a means to cancel. Save this link for cancelling that round.

Otherwise email the director of the event if it is before the sign up deadline, even up to the day before. We realize that seniors have issues that arise suddenly, so we understand if you must cancel.

On the morning of, it is best to call the Pro Shop and inform them by dialing 510-848-7373.

Will I be charged if I cancel after the deadline?

The management at Tilden has generally been quite reasonable for not charging players if they cancel. We can't guarantee this practice will continue if we, as a club, abuse this kindness.

What if I am a no-show?

We know there may be incidents when you or your family is suddenly in crisis and can't begin to think of calling the course that morning to say you can't play. That being said, you should understand that a no-show can cause all kinds of worry and problems for the director on the morning of. The director may spend time trying to find out if you are there, are in the parking lot, on the range, in the bathroom, contact the Pro Shop to see if you have shown up, etc.

Also, a player who has not signed up but is on the waiting list might show up to see if they can get in. A no-show can complicate this. Repeated no-shows on a players part could lead to loss of privileges to play in our home events.

Flights, Playing Partners, & Tee Times

Are there different flights?

No, there are no separate flights for home tournaments. Men play from the white tees, except in the Winter League, where on hole #16 they play from the red tees to avoid walking down the steep and possibly slippery cart path. Women always play from the red tees.

Can I select who I want to be in my foursome and/or can I select my tee time?

When you press the "Playing" button to sign up on your invitation you will get a confirmation and see a link to send a message to the manager (director) of the round. There you can state who you would like to be paired with and/or if you have a particular desire for an early or late tee time.

We do our best to honor your partner request, but we suggest it is also good to get to know other members of the club by limiting the number of those you name to play with. You should include any request for an early or late tee time in the same message.

We generally have tee times between 9:00 and 10:30. We can't guarantee honoring your request as happens when the person you want to play with asks for late and you ask for early or there are many similar requests. Also, if we don't have a full field we consolidate the field to the earlier tee times. We take these tee time requests as desires, not requirements for being able to play. Be sure and include a note if you must have an early or late time in order to play. For example "I have a dentist appointment at 8:00 a.m. and need a late tee time" or "I have a meeting at 3:00 p.m. and have to be off the course by 2:00".
