Singles Match Play - 2023

Tilden Seniors- We have finally completed the Tilden Seniors Singles Match Play Tournament competition with an October finish for the Singles Match Play Playoffs. Rick Patrick ( Division One winner) outlasted Robert Zimmerman ( Division Two Champion) in the Finals match last week to claim the overall championship.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the round robin stage ( 32 players) and continued into the playoffs.  Most matches were closely contested with players of like handicaps squaring off in some very exciting competition.

Attached is the finals playoff bracket with results and dates of the competitions as well as the flights the players represented. Also attached is the Round Robin flight summary of points earned in the round robin stage of the competition for those old enough to remember when the tournament started in the Spring.

Thanks to all who participated in this newer format of flights and preliminary round matches leading into a knockout round of Singles Match Play. It truly was a summer league format with 60 matches played over the 5 months of competition. -- Cory

Senior Summer League - 2023

SSL - Round 3 - Aug 10th

Holy Cow!  Round 3 produced some amazing scores.  Thanks for playing at a beautiful course in gorgeous weather.

Usually a net 65 puts you in first place.  In Round 3 a net 65 barely got a golfer on the leader board.  Jean Hurricane and Bob Zimmerman both shot a net 60 to tie for first place.

Grant Whiting shot the low gross in Round 3 with a 77.

Bob Zimmerman rode his net 60 to the overall championship for the 2023 Senior Summer League with a net 128, edging out Grant Whiting by ONE shot.  Both golfers submitted an impressive scorecard in Round 3.

There are three attachments below.  The first shows the leader summary for Round 3 and the Overall leader results.  The second shows how the entire field finished for Round 3 and the last attachment shows how the entire field finished overall.

SSL - Round 2 - July 20th

Grant Whiting eeked out a 1 shot victory in Round 2 over several players that are currently lamenting one bad swing or one lousy putt somewhere in their round.

John Karanfilian holds the overall lead for the Summer League championship, but several golfers are within striking distance and most can reach the money board with a good third round.

Detailed results are below:

Spring Scramble - May 4

Dear Scramble Golfers,

The spirit for this event was great!  Folks came out to have a good time and maybe hit a good shot or two each hole to help their team.  From the results and from what many were sharing afterwards on the deck/patio, all of this happened!    Thanks to all for helping to make this annual event a time of fun and fellowship, with some golf and teamwork brought into the mix.

As for the results, there was a pretty big disparity between low and high gross scores, as would be expected.  When handicaps were factored in, however, only a dozen strokes separated the nine teams' net scores, from six under par to eighteen under par.  Everyone did well!!!  The team of Bagg, Francis, and Hurricane was the clear winner with a net score of 52, followed by the team of Palmer, Yee, Smith, and Cernac with a 55.  There was a tie for third with a net score of 57 between the teams of Brown, Armstrong, Webb, Gonzales and Fendel, Hassler, and Reining.  Congratulations to all.    Detailed results are included below.

SWL - Round 1

The first round of the 2023 Senior Winter League competition was played at Tilden on Feb 9 in weather dry enough that carts were allowed on the course.   Though the TPSGC Local & Winter Rules were in effect, the slopes to the right of #14 & #5 were deemed safe to play (no free drop necessary), and those playing the blue or white tees used the upper tee box on #16.  It was also the first TPSGC tournament to allow all golfers to choose the tee they would play.  That said, everyone chose to play the usual tees:  Men-White; Ladies-Red.  No one decided to adjust their game (or their handicap) by playing from a different tee.   Congratulations to our winners:

§    1st Place Net:  Larry Hanshaw ($40 Tilden Park Gift Card)

§    2nd Place Net Tie:   Mark Cisneros, Bob Scott ($30 Tilden Park Gift Card each)

§    4th Place Net:  Gil Lee ($10 Tilden Park Gift Card)

§    5th Place Net:  Mark Cameron ($5 Tilden Park Gift Card)

§    Low Gross:  Alex Brown with an 80  ($10 Tilden Park Gift Card)

Full results of the field of 41 golfers are below.  There are two sets of scores.  One is the standings of the Senior Winter League (all three rounds - though this is only the first) and one is just for the Feb 9 round.
